So Sad- thought I was gonna get the job.

Posted 5 months ago Hi all, I'm right out of college and I got this great internship working at an oral surgery practice (which is the field I want to be in). The company was in the process of hiring a bunch of new people, and I originally interviewed to be a surgery assistant but offered to intern first so they could try me out, so to speak. Well, they love me, but now at the end of my internship the higher ups have said "they aren't hiring anymore". They did hint that MAYBE some of the older assistants were going to get promotions and then there would be room for me, but they haven't guarrenteed anything. I really love this job, and I want to work here more than ever (salary would be 10K more than my last job, culture is great, free lunches on wednesdays) but would have to stick it out for measly intern pay for who knows how long. Thoughts? I'm really sad today :( |

| Posted 5 months ago Rhiannon, I worked in the dental field for seventeen years. It is a satisfying albeit stressful job. My advice to you is to stay since you're happy if you can get by with the money position. Keep your eyes open for other opportunities. Do the best every day and after six months or more, ask for a review if you feel comfortable and there is a position open. You may have to go to a different location because they have you for an interns salary. Make sound choices because your resume doesn't want to reflect a job jumper. Good Luck. | Posted 5 months ago Thanks for the reply, Watchnstarz44. I think i can get by with the money situation. The sad thing to me, is that when I interviewed for the position, if i would have just taken the actual position instead of the internship, I'd have a full time position. In the interim the company hired three people after me and now says they're not hiring. I'm just sad!!!!! |

| Posted 5 months ago You have every right to be disappointed! Just remember, you may find a new opportunity (in the dental field or otherwise) where you could be happier and more successful than where you thought you wanted to be! Also, take this experience with you- you know you are competent, you don't have to prove yourself to a potential employer by setteling for less than you are worth. Negotiate yourself up- don't let yourself fall into the stereotypically feminine trap of doing more, for less. You are there to add value to the comany, but only if they value you! Korina Anja |
