Juana, congratulations on your recent graduation and impending journey to college!  Good for you.  It's tough for everyone right now with regards to employment and maybe since you don't have too much experience you may want to consider keeping it local (up to maybe no more than 10miles from home). Have you been to local shopping centers, malls, etc...?   Not having a car is certainly an issue but not a big one (especially right now, with sky high gas prices), have you considered public transportation?  Good luck to you!

Most of college I waitressed, worked at department stores or chain stores (starbucks, photo places, B&N, etc) I would try places like that.  They are nicer to college students ESPECAILLY Barnes & Nobles!  Their discount helped on my text books!

Check out craigslist!!  Also, it never hurts to work a service job (retail, restaurants) to really understand what it's like to be on that side of the cash register.  Everyone should try it!

As a Career Advisor professionalism and grammar are two important things in a job search. Granted you just got out of high school, but in this economy everyone is looking for jobs and you want to be a professional as possible. I would suggest taking an honest assessment of yourself and see what you could do to step up your game so you can succeed.

We hire many college students at Target.. so maybe you can try retail stores in your area.  It seems as though employers are turned off when I tell them I am in college... so maybe that's why you've been denied.  Anything to give me a reason why I've been searching for a new job in the last year.

Juana~

Relax about finding a job.  Employers can sense desperation and would rather not deal with it.  Keep your confidence level high and remember they want you as much as you want them.

Try looking for something part time since you can't really commit for a long time because you'll be going to college.  It you can afford it, try working on a volunteer basis to acquire some experience.

Good luck
