What to do about the glass ceiling?

Posted 11 months ago When you feel you have reached a glass ceiling in your company or position what should be your next move? Do you leave the company all together? |

| Posted 11 months ago I do think that some industries have a lower ceiling than others, so it is harder for women to stay and rise up. Coming from a human resources background I can honestly tell you that the war for talent is on. Companies that don't make their environment a place in which all types of talent can thrive and success WILL lose out. So if you feel like you have reached a glass ceiling (because of your gender), talk to someone who might be able to make a difference - if there is no one in the company that will see sense, I would drop the company and move on. |

| Posted 11 months ago I've noticed that in the advertising/marketing world, there doesn't seem to be too much of a glass ceiling. Many CEOs are still men, but I've worked at companies where the executive teams have been mostly women. I think marketing/retail/advertising in general tends to be better. Look at places like eBay, The Limited, Viacom, etc. All of these companies have many female executives. |

| Posted 4 months ago If I were in that situation I think I would look to apply for further advancement elsewhere. I would though, first talk to higher management to discuss my concerns and ask what I might be able to do to further my advancement opportunities there. Need Breeds Ingenuity!

| Posted 4 months ago I would first speak with my superiors to find out what I can do to advance, and if there is something I can do, rather it be get a certification or training, I would do it...if there wasn't room to grow, I'm sorry to say, I would start to look elsewhere.
