Especially at work! I have to hold it all in and my stomach hurts. There is a one person bathroom that ECHOS! I wish I could set a timer for my body - "NO GAS OR ANY OTHER BOWEL HAPPENINGS TILL AFTER 5PM!"

I always go to another floor when at the office to "go #2".

I always hold it in until I can do it in the privacy of my own home. It's so awkward to hear managers and co-workers doing 'their thing'...

LOL Original Poster here, I don't mind going and doing #2, cause we don't have much traffic in our bathroom. But I'll wait till the last possible minute so I know it'll be quick! I can't, however, bring myself to fart. The bathrooms (1 person men's room and 1 person women's room) are just a small room away from my manager - and very ECHO-EY. All the doorways are open in-between. You can sometimes hear the toilet paper roll moving or a man peeing from my mgr's desk!! So, I will wait to do that at home. For some reason I am just REALLY gassy today!!

I smoke so I'd go outside and walk down to the smoke area for a break.  This way no one was around me and I was outside.  I used to sit right next to the bathrooms in one of my offices.  OMG at the smells that would come out of there.  You would think the mens would be worse but there were days that this was not the case.  Needless to say I kept a can of smell good spray on my desk.

I feel the same way. I hate gas...and some days I'm really gasy. Maybe you can try ginger ale.

Avoid cabbage,  peppers, broccoli, beans, cauliflower, onions, and a lot of sugary foods the night before work. You can try Beano or a yogurt like Activa. Gas is natural although frowned upon in public. Holding it in until the last minute makes the gas worse. Use the lavatory as soon as you feel the urge.

OMG, this is so funny!  We had a newspaper article here about a man who was thrown out of his local because of his constant farting.  It was so funny, I was in tears!

In all seriousness, you ought to get some Gas-Ex - you won't believe how quickly it can dissipate gas in your stomach.

Original Poster here...I'm glad I posted up, you all are cracking me up! LOL I got off work late last night. Once I got in the car I just let it go...lol. Anytime I get off work late my Grammy (who lives w/my parents) picks up my daughter from daycare and sets aside dinner for me (isn't that sweet?). They had cabbage last night - and BEANS....LOL. I ate it hesitantly...Gas has pretty much dissipated now. Feeling much better. If I hold it (#2 I mean) and wait till the last minute, it just seems quicker and less painful. Cause, don't you hate when you go at the first sign to find out you can't go. Then you have to go back and forth...so it's obvious what you're doing! That's why I wait. I hate having to go at work, but many times it hits me abt 20mins after I have my coffee and I can't hold it. One time at work, my stomach was killing me, plus it was my TOM. I'd been in the bathroom for a little longer than normal. When I came out, there was my mgr and a couple of other co-workers in the open office near the bathrooom (the kitchen is the only thing between the bathroom and the open office). They were talking abt bowel movements!!! I knew the conversation started bc of me and I was SO embarrassed - but I couldn't help it. But really, it was inappropriate conversation for them to be having at work - esp considering the circumstances! I hope this isn't grossing anyone out. I come from a very down-to-earth family!

In my husband's country if a woman farts, burps or is seen during her time of the month by him or infront of him it is grounds for divorce because she has 'polluted' him.  HE on the other hand can do it all he wants (except the period part....).  So when my husband lets one rip I always shout DIVORCE!  I myself hate going #2 with people around OR any other thing but tinkle.  I try to hold out until I go home or if I can't wait until the coast is clear and try to go as fast as possible!

Funny, funny, funny! I too confess that I require privacy when having  gas. You never forget those who let one go in front of you, and I wouldnt want to be remembered for that...

Original Poster here: Ummmm, I'd hardly think that it would be fun to have it and losing wait isn't a benefit, it's an unfortunate side effect...

I meant "weight" (obviously)... But seriously, that comment above could be very triggery to someone w/ IBS or even an ED (eating disorder).

I asked the question because I was just curious.  If someone with an eating disorder was triggered or could be triggered by that question then maybe they (you) have bigger issues than just an eating disorder.  I know someone who thinks that she may have it and can't afford to lose any weight.  So, the question was not just a matter of curiosity but also concern!

I apologize then. Just proves how uninterpritable the tone can be when writing/emailing/typing. The tone/question seemed excited. I don't have IBS or ED but when I read your comment, I automatically thought how it would feel from a sufferer's POV. Thanks for clarifying. Again, I aplogize for my assumption.

Growing up I recall that we used to pass a tombs by the side of the road on the way to visit my grandma. The story was that the person was on a bus and wanted to pass gas, and held it in in for fear that it would be awfully offensive to the other passengers. He collapsed and died in the bus and was immediately burried by the wayside.  Since hearing that story (I beleive is a fable) I have tried to get rid of gas in a discreet manner by just walking around the floor. You can always count on gas to come at a most akward time and place.

Thank you and I too am sorry for the misunderstanding.

This is great. I thought it would be bitchiing about the high price of gasoline!

For what it's worth, I have IBS and it sure hasn't made me lose weight.
