After dropping out of high school my senior year (spring 2005), I realized it would take me longer to graduate at a community college so I enrolled in  the GED course. I took and passed all of the pre-tests without studying. Before I started actual testing however, I became pregnant. I could have taken them during my pregnancy but I put it off, and off.... until I finally took 3 of the 5 in the spring of 2007, when my son was about one year old. Then I moved and was unable to finish the testing where I was. Well after 3 years, and 2 kids, I have finally finished what I started. Yesterday I went and took the last 2 tests and passed! It feels so good to be done. Also on July 14th I start college. I will be taking online courses to earn an Assosiate of Arts in Business. I am more motivated than I have ever been in my entire life. I am finally ready to move forward.....

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

This is a terrific accomplishment and you have every reason to be very proud of yourself!!!!!

And congratulations on your decision to start on-line courses for college credit!  Stick with it!  It takes a lot of self-discipline but it's worth it!  And imagine how proud of you your children will be!

Thank you! I honestly believe that they are my main source of motivation. I look back at how little I have accomplished and I feel like a horrible role-model. I want my children to look up to me and I want to provide them with a good life. When I started looking for a job after not working for the majority of two years I realized I had neither the experience nor the education to make the kind of money I feel I deserve.

RedDahlia,

You are a wonderful role model for your kids! You continued to pursue your goal of getting your GED even though you had several set-backs. Perseverence in the face of adversity is a very important lesson for children to learn.  I love it when  you say that you need more education and experience to get the money you deserve. Great attitude and self-esteem which you are modeling for your children. Best of luck!

Thank you very much. After working and going to school for about 11 weeks now I am already seeing the benefits. I have already learned things that I can use daily on the job. It is very rewarding!

RedDahlia,

CONGRATULATIONS!  I'm excited for you!  It is so much fun starting a new adventure.  On-line coursed take discipline, but the flexibility is wonderful.

You're doing a great job.  It's more enjoyable going to school when you're motivated like you are, so you're getting the best from yourself.  Congratulations!

So, I'm guessing that you've been in school about two months. I hope that you're still doing great. Let us know how you're doing.

So far, so good! I passed my first two courses with A's. I have already received a $1.00 raise from my starting wage. I am learning how to budget my time and prioritize tasks since I have so much going on. Housework and sleep are somewhat lacking but I think it's worth it.
