Travel Abroad Staff - How do you get that Job?
Posted 2 months ago I have gone on a few study abroad programs when I was in school and I was always interested in how the staff I was working with got their start. I mean specifically, the people who come up with the programs, the student recruiters, the travel counselors that do the interviews and take applications, any and all of them. Is there such a thing as an International Exchange degree?? I highly doubt it, and I know it sounds weird, but it's not the same as International Relations or business... I don't think. Are there any specific subjects or programs to study in school to get those jobs or is it just who you know and what your experience is abroad? If I were to go into an interview tomorow what educational requirements would they be looking for? I always thought that would be an amazing job to have. I recently decided I am going back to school next year for school/community counseling, preferably highschools. So far, that is what I have committed myself to doing because I think I would be good at it, number one, and also because I would enjoy the daily interactions with students. In the line of work I'm doing now I've realized I definately like working with youth. But I've always had a passion for promoting international travel. It would be ideal at some point in my life to fuse those two together and work with that kind of organization. Thus, I am curious to know if having a Master's in School/Community Counseling (with lots of personal international travel experience) would qualify me for working with those study abraod programs in Universities or other agencies. Or would they want something else? How does one get her foot in that door? |
