Job Hunt and Networking

Posted 6 months ago Hello to all: Recently I came acroos this website www.jobfox.com, which I think is brilliant, for all those posting resumes to get a new job. In it you enter the information as you will with Monsters.com or USAJOBS.com, etc. The cool part of this website is that it actually traces an expertise map. If you want to know what I mean just take a look at My Jobfox Page Web Address:
Have fun building up your own Work Experience page. Also you can send your page to potential employeers and included in your e-mail when you send a cover letter. Hope this hint will help you get the job you want.

Posted 5 months ago What an interesting tool, thank you for sharing! My question, though, would be: How many employers will actually type up a link you include on your resume?

Posted 5 months ago I have joined jobfox. LinkedIn, even placement places like Arotek but the one thing that has always been my tried and true source, pounding the pavement! I have sent TONS of emails with my resume cover letter AND letter of recommendation, but its my persistance and my calling and checking up (not once a week its annoying) but once a month, to let them know "hey I am here and still very interested" often its the chats with the HR that gets me into the door and into an interview. If the company is one you REALLY like and is not HIRING as for a Informational Interview, who knows you MIGHT actually get hired or something might come up a few months down the road! "The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough."-Randy Pausch

Posted 3 months ago Thanks, I will pass that on to my students. LauraS you are so right. I wish my students would really take that advice. I have explained they need to actively network. You can be a member of every website and association on earth, but if you are not going after what you want you will not get far. I work with college students of all ages, but many seem to think having a degree means a job will be handed to them.

Posted 2 months ago I like this too. I haven't set it up, yet, but I see it helping me to focus on my abilities, experience, outcomes and helping me to build a better resume. If potential employers look at it, that is great! However, it is also a tool for me as I search for my next great career! Thank you! DeAnna
