Well, I'm sure I'm not the only woman on here who fiddles around online during down-time at work. I'd love to see which websites "help" you procrastinate or distract you from your dayjob....

Here are some of mine:

Welcome to the club Daniela!I keep surfing inbetween work from time to time aswell.Like even now am at work(it's about 2:15 pm here) and writing this post :-).I think it helps to take breaks in between,I find it as a means to recharge my mind to get back to work. This helps me work more effectively. They say that the human mind can focus for maximum of 40 minutes,so it is natural to feel distracted or look for distraction after one has concentrated for quite some time on the task at hand.

We have restricted access from work to most websites for security reasons. But I am sure glad that WomenCo is accessible!Infact I visit WomenCo a lot from work as the site seems to be most active at this time(day time for me and evenings for those in the U.S) as a result of which there's a lot of fresh content to read on the site. And I guess am the only member here living in a time zone that's half a day ahead of of all of you.

Re-enlightenment is in the realization of the fact that we have only the present moment to live.

Which sites don't distract me is probably the better question!

Here's a sampling:

  • WomenCo.!

  • BBC News - a pretty unbiased source for global news

  • Drudge Report - keep my finger on what conservatives will throw at liberals next!

  • Yelp - best review database around

  • Best of Craig's List - crazy, hilarious, zany stuff!

  • CollegeConfidential - a forum for college admissions; even though I'm not in college anymore, nor am I applying, I just can't get enough of it (nerd alert!)

  • Perez Hilton - I know, I know. It's hard for me to admit!

  • Gawker - I can't let go of my NYC media roots

  • Alternet - amazing progressive news website

  • And then this lovely website called WomenCo.... have you heard of it?

Wait - I thought of another one:  www.icanhascheezburger.com

If you have not checked out this web site, you absolutely MUST.  Every day, 6 or 7 pictures of cats are posted with hilarious captions.  I go every day, and at least one of the pictures each day will make me laugh out loud.

(I DO actually work occasionally, not just visit random websites)

I don't work yet, but I got pretty distracted during my computer class at school. Luckily for me they have most sites blocked (and flash isn't installed on my computer, haha), but I like to play snake a lot. I had it added to my iGoogle homepage so I could play it all I wanted. I know that my mom at work plays Neopets. I know, it sounds childish, but Neopets has a lot to offer for adults. My whole family is really into it, but it sucks you in if you're not careful. =]
