Diet and Exercise

Posted 8 days ago I used to look great, just the way I like it. Now, it takes me forever to get dressed in the morning. I started this diet my friend told me about. I guess it's called the "Protein Diet" or something like that. I eat all sorts of proteins (meats, salads, tofu, etc.) and stay away from carbs like bread, potatoes, pasta, etc. I just want to know from any of you if this worked for you. I just started doing it last week and it is going pretty well. Of course, I exercise too because that is important for my health and other things. |

Posted 6 days ago I find that the best way to look and feel the way you want to - healthy - is to eat balanced, exercise, have a regular sleep schedule, and give yourself time to unwind and relax.

Posted 6 days ago Hi Trivinia, I did the protein diet last year and lost 15lbs in 3months but as soon as I started eating normal I gained it back. I am also looking in to start a good diet program. I believe the below link is a good sensible way to do it without too much of stress... but now if you want a quick result the protein diet will help immensely but as soon as you are off it will come back.. so better be wise and find the best solution.. what you say??

Posted 6 days ago That's the problem with fad diets -- whether you do Atkins or protein or whatever it is: It only works while you're on it. Better to institute an all-around healthier lifestyle that you can sustain in the long-term, so you can keep off the weight long-term, too.

Posted 5 days ago Definitely, ladies! I agree. At first I wanted the quick way to lost weight, but I just realized that I don't want to go through gaining it all back again. That's stressful in itself. So, yes you're right Daniela a new healthier lifestyle that I can maintain for years and years is what I'm looking for. And thanks for the link Jo, I'll be checking up on that!

Posted 5 days ago Tivinia, If you're the kind of girl who doesn't like spending hours at the gym, I suggest yoga. I hate aerobic exercise like running, but I adore yoga and can do it on a day to day basis. That, paired with a healthy diet, is all I need. I need not even eat small portions, just eat healthy things.

Posted 5 days ago So, Daniela, do you attend yoga classes? Or do you just do yoga at home on your spare time?

Posted 5 days ago I am lazy if I don't have someone else to motivate me,s o I take classes. But my mother has done yoga at home almost her entire life. Once you find the kind of yoga you like, you can do it anywhere. Have yoga mat, will travel. :)

Posted 5 days ago I started back to Bally's Gym this past week to work on the threadmill. I will expand my exercise program one step at a time. It is like putting toe in water to get use to the temperature. I am always losing the same 15 lbs in my mind! Gee, no wonder I don't lose it, it's stuck in my head and no action in reducing calories!! Well at least I am exercising. But doesn't muscle weigh more than fat????

Posted 4 days ago I signed up for Weight Watchers online 3 weeks ago and I love it. I have tried it in the past with going to the meetings but I don't have time for meetings and I am online all day long at work. I can track my points, plan out my day as to what I am going to eat, get great recipes and all sorts of advice. I have also committed to going to a class every night at the Gym in my area. Whether it be circuit traning, spinning or yoga. I like to do a lot of different things to keep me from getting bored. I take long walks on the weekend with my dog. And the company I work for actually gives us a free gym pass so its great!! The wellness program has been beefed up tremendously at my job, its awesome to see how many people have come out for class and to just work out together. It helps to have a work out buddy or two! GOOD LUCK to you all. I already feel better!! PEACE!

| Posted 3 days ago I have a lot to say about this! I watched my mom's weight yoyo on the atkins diet (all protein - no carbs) for years. She would eat bacon and eggs 3 times a day....eat no fruit, no veggies. She would lose weight though! It is not sustainable...and its much better to adopt a better diet as a lifestyle. Cutting out sugar, soda, baked goods, high fructose corn syrup for example....but not carbs.
The one fad diet I think is better is the zone. Its more balanced and sustainable, because youre supposed to eat 30 % fat, 30%protein and 40% carbs. |

Posted 2 days ago Yeah I agree. It's way better to just adopt a healthier lifestyle than to mess around with those "quick, short-term" diets.

Posted 1 day ago What type of exercise do you do and how often?
Posted 1 day ago Personally, I love exercise. So, I do it all the time. I run every weeknight for an hour and do muscle toners for about a half an hour. All of this is before I shower and get ready for bed. On the weekends I try to do activities like bowling, skating, swimming/surfing (or my attempts at surfing hehehe), cultural dances, or anything else that comes up. I really try to stay active because once I get lazy, I get lazy! Every now and then I give myself a break, of course. Otherwise, I would probably burn-out or something. What are some exercise you all do?

Posted 1 day ago I do brisk walking everyday about 3 kms.Apart from this I have fixed meal times and try never to over eat.I am a vegetarian so I eat a lot of veggies, salads, fruits, fresh fruit juices.I think it is better to follow a balanced diet, eat everything in limits instead of restricting ourselves to just proteins or carbs. You can lose weight by following a diet but can easily regain all of it or even more once you go easy on yourself. Things like almonds have good fat in them which is essential for your system,so no harm in having them atall.Offcourse anything in excess is bad.But one simple tips that people follow are having about 2-4 soaked (over night)almonds first thing in the morning, they say it's good for maintaining your weight. Also try to have nothing for about 3-4 hours after your dinner or before your bedtime. Emotional eating is what can really get you out of shape.
