Ok, I recently increased mileage and time running to 1 hour and as I kick off my shoes, a few toe nails are black and blue; this is not from rough terrain. Does any one know why this happens? Muscle tone, toes striking shoe?

It's happened to me in ballet - I know it's not the same, but in that case it's definitely justy our toes are hitting the inside of your footware in a way they shouldn't! Consider thicker socks and shoes  a half-size up :)

Are you wearing cotton socks?  They can rub roughly against your toes and turn them black and blue.  Try running with dri-fit or socks made particularly for running.

I was wearing cotton and then I switched to ‘light’ wool socks and discovered why runners love their wool.

I am thinking about doing a half marathon; does anyone have training suggestions?

Run 1/3 of the distance of the marathon three times a week. Then run the full distance once a week.

Great, thank you for the feedback.

On a weekly basis, I do 2-3 intense cardio-workouts (outrigging) for 1:30 to 2:00 hours. Then on alternate days I change intensity to moderate and run two, 40-45 minute runs followed later in the week with (1), 1 hour 8 minute run. I keep the mileage reasonable by limiting increases to once every 3 weeks at 10% of the total distance covered, until I hit my goal.

How many weeks before race day do I run the set distance, at race pace and when do I taper? 2 weeks out from race day?
