Posted 7 months ago Well, I've just started my second job, so I'm no longer seeking my first job... but boy, was that a chaotic time. Wanted to know what you first job seekers - and former first job seekers - had to say about landing that first job. |

| Posted 5 months ago Well, I've just moved to New York after graduating from College, and receiving a Bacherlor of Fine Arts Degree --but, I'm having the hardest time finding a job. I've applied to about 10, just in the last week alone, and I've only had an interview with 1. I'm trying to start my acting career, and afford to live here, but it seems so out of my reach. I know that I at least need 2 partime jobs, and I can't even find 1. It's been 2 1/2 months, already. I have a high school diploma, and a college degree, but I can't even seem to get work at Macy's. This is really a tough time. I've runout of money, and I still need to get next months rent, and finish traveling in search of a job. I haven't even landed my First Job, let alone a Second. ~Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.* |

| Posted 5 months ago The current economy definitely isn't rosy-looking for finding a job - particularly that first one, since you don't have a long résumé. I guess the attitude now should just be: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again." Daniela

| Posted 5 months ago I know it's tough and very scary to think, I'm educated, but jobless and soon to be homeless and hungry. I've been there. If you are out of money to live, you have to find resources to help you. That will be tough enough because a lot of public assistance programs are out of money, however, they are out there. Once you know you will not be homeless and hungry, then you can be a lot more at ease in your job search. Right now, you probably come across as desperate - which you are, but that makes you tense and jumpy no matter how well you control your thoughts and emotions. Find a nice place to have some quiet time and evaluate your goals. Visualize where you want to be a year from now, 6 months from now, a month from now. Maybe your present goals and expectations are out of balance. Set doable and reasonable goals and expectations. Relax and Smile! We are all in this together and you will achieve your dreams!

| Posted 5 months ago Finding a job is very hard, especially with the present economy. I started working part time at a pharmacy while I was in school, and when I graduated it turned into full time. It was great for a while, but I really wanted to find something that could turn into a good career. I also wanted to use my degree if at all possible. Due to some personal situations at home, I chose to leave my pharmacy job, and for 2 1/2 months I was jobless. I applied for and sent resumes to probably 50 or more places. I was looking for full time, but towards the end of the second month I knew I need to look for part time just to get my feet back on the ground. But it seemed that even part time was not hiring. I finally landed a job where I am presently working, and I have been here for a year. The past few months, I have been looking for yet another job. It has been hard, but I was finally hired and start in less than two weeks. It was a little easier this time around though, because I at least had an income. But I completely understand the frustration and tension that comes with job hunting. |

| Posted 5 months ago I am in the same boat as Keona. I just graduated this May with my BFA in Studio Art, and I am still without a job. Thankfully I live at home right now but I am running out of money as well. I haven’t even gotten an interview with anyone. I keep telling myself that I need to be patient because of the way the economy is right now, but it is really hard. I hope the economy improves quickly! Being an artist makes it even harder because I do not have very many skills. I really do not know what to do. I guess all I can do now is keep looking at the jobs advertised. I am very grateful for receiving my BFA in Studio Art, because for the longest time I did not think I could make it through college. I made it through! Now I just have to make it through this hard time as well. I keep praying for the strength.

| Posted 4 months ago I've just graduated from college and still haven't found a job as well. Anyone feel like you didn't learn as much as you should have?!?!? My degree is in Computer Information Systems. I'm good with computers but the jobs I've been looking at expect way more then what I've been taught. So my proffessor says to go get my masters at the college i went to... I'm thinking 'WHY so you can still teach me nothing useful?!?' BUMMED

| Posted 4 months ago Although I am not a first-time job seeker, I am trying to get back into a field where I feel as though I am contributing something. I have a Masters in Information Systems and just cannot find a better job. Are there any jobs out there for those over 50? If so, please let me know. I'm so tired of being rejected. I've worked all of my life, excelling in all of my former positions. Now I'm stuck in this go-nowhere admin. asst. position and don't even seem to be able to move to another place with that skill either. If anyone knows where I can get help securing a better position, please let me know. As I stated before, I am over 50, 56 to be exactly, but I need to work and will be working for a long time. I'm not dead yet and feel I have valuable skills to offer. |

| Posted 4 months ago I do not graduate until 2/09....a head start never hurts. I wanted to get some feedback about Monster.com Is it a beneficial tool to finding new jobs? Any tips for this site? |

| Posted 3 months ago I was wondering about Monster as well. I signed up for it and I have been browsing the job postings there... but most people want experienced help. I am still in college and looking to graduate in May 2009. How am I supposed to get experience when no one will hire me to give me the experience??? It's frustrating. |

| Posted 3 months ago The all time best job hunting site is indeed.com. I could not have found a job without it. One plus, if you use the same browser it will show you the newest jobs, so you won't have to go through ones you've already looked at. |

| Posted 3 months ago I finally found a job after 3 1/2 months of searching full time. I found mine through Craigslist. I needed something somewhat close do to kids and gas, Craigslist brought me the most results. I've never had to search so long and hard for a job, it was extremely depressing. Even though everyone agrees the job market is hard right now, you tend to feel like it is you!!!! One great thing came from the long search. I found this site along the way. |

| Posted 3 months ago I am in my second position since graduating from college in 2001. It took me a year of searching at numerous job fairs and countless interviews to get my current job. The best advice I can give is that persistance pays off. Have you had anyone review your resume? Have you gone to a career center to get advice on how well you interview? It's true the economy is not ideal but sometimes we miss small things about ourselves that could use some polishing and we are not even aware of it. I invite you to read my personal blog about my year of uncertainty in job searching http://blog.womenforhire.com/2007/10/my-first-women-for-hire-career.html Hope this helps. Hang in there I completely understand your frustration in finding your first job. I wish everyone the best. |

| Posted 2 months ago I recently graduated from UCR with a BA in Sociology and have not been able to find a job for the past 3 months. I've worked since I was 16 and haven't had my parents pay my bills since but now they are my salvation. I am getting really frustrated because I have applied to every job possible and do not seem to get a break. I have only had one interview and I totally blew it. I was so nervous and eager to get the job that I cant even remember the interview because I spoke so fast and rambled on and on. I must have sounded so desperate!! Lucia |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hi all...I live in Florida. I recently graduated from law school and I am having the hardest time finding a job. I am taking the Florida bar in February and would love to work till late next year in an office to gain experience. I have applied to probably over 30 locations in the last one and half months. I didn't think finding something would be so difficult. I almost thing I would have had better success finding something after graduating college with my BS. Does anyone have any advice or tips? I'm only 24 and I seem to be either overqualified or under qualified. I am glad to see that I'm not the only one struggling out there.......Good luck to all of you out there. |

| Posted about 1 month ago My biggest pet peeve about job hunting is that everyong wants someone experienced. I graduate next year in the winter and it's been a very frustrating experience. I'm trying very hard to not fall back in a retail or fast food job, but the way things are going I might have to try for a retail job. I'm still trying to keep a positive outlook...but the economy is so not helping >.< |
