Non-Profit vs. Starting Business
Posted 9 months ago How many of you have started a non-profit before, after, or besides running a business? I'm a at-home mama witht a female-oriented business concept that breaks into 3 different areas and thusly branching into 7 more divisions. Should I even dare to start building a non-profit w/ 5 professionals AND NO MONEY? |

| Posted 9 months ago If you have to will, then go for it. There are many ways to start businesses. If you are saying you will go into business with 5 professionals, then pool your resources. If you do not have resources, contact your local Small Business Development Center, and they can provide you with a wealth of information. In addition, there are women's business resource centers that you can go to for more information. Look into the possibility of getting grants; talk with your local economic development agencies to see if they have concepts and/or pertinent information to share. Also, trying to get a silent partner / backer for financial assistance, possibly another small business or a corporation that would benefit from a partnership with you. These are all things that you should look into before taking the plunge. Good luck to you. |

| Posted 8 months ago My aunt started a non-profit and it's been successful - but she had good financial backing for the endeavor from the beginning. I think that makes a big difference. A lot of non-profits have good intentions, but if they don't have the financial support necessary, then they become unorganized places where people are underpaid (or not paid sometimes!) and the projects/mission they organized around falls behind. |

| Posted 6 months ago I work with a few non-profits to help them with fund raising. Any of you who would like to find out what I have available, just give me a shout!
