Importance of Drinking Enough Water

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is
often mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

That is so true...I do try my best to have about 7-8 glasses of water on a daily basis.

Question is, can you get away with drinking green tea? I have heard mixed messages. Any thoughts?

I drink my water daily (8 glasses), also green tea is suppose to be very good for you also. I am not sure if it is a substitute or not. I drink one full glass of water before each meal so I can eat less. That really works for me.

I think it is supposed to be just regular water..things like coffee, soda, and tea contain things that dehydrate you even though they contain water.

Well I have been having green tea for a long time now...I dont see any ill effects of it so far.Infact I know of people who consume green tea more than water and none of them seem to be complaining .It is supposed to have many benefits..a lot of nutritionists consider it as the most potent health drink ever...it enhances your immune system, helps prevent cancer, tames inflammation, contains fluorides and other minerals which help to fight tooth cavities, reduces cholesterol, also helps to lose weight.

Although water is an easier and most accessible option, green tea is'nt bad either. So I guess for those who find it difficult to consume the recommended quantity of water..a change of taste via green tea is'nt a bad idea.

You should also not "chug" water when you drink it.  It becomes run off (you have to pee right away which means it's not being absorbed).  If you sip it you absorb more.  Leave a bottle on your desk at work and constantly sip from it, you won't even know you're drinking so much.  Also never drink ice cold water.

I drink my 8 cups a day but sometimes it gets soooo boring so I use the zero calorie Crystal Light flavoring to spice it up.

a big reason to drink enough water is kidney stones! Trust me you do NOT want them! The doc said dehydration is the main cause...I had a 1" stone that had to be surgically removed at the the cost of $25,000 - so far. And I lost a week of work, not to mention the pain! crystal Light lessens the advantage of drinking water; my doc said that if I drink tea or coke with a meal, drink a glass of water afterwards.

I like water; it is what I prefer. In college, I drank a lot of diet soda which is so bad for you. I rarely drink juice since I eat fruit everyday instead. My one indulgence is a cup or two of coffee daily and an ocassional glass of wine.

I 've heard that 8 actuall glasses of water isn't always necessary. Part of the research published stating this also stated that you can get water sources from things like fruits and veggies....there is hope for not floating away...any way who has that much time to spend in the bathroom?
