Hillary for Secy of State

Posted about 1 month ago I see the news is now all a buzz about Obama picking Hillary for this position. I know I've heard a lot of folks say "no you can't pick a former rival". I wonder why not? And given Obama's platform was all about bringing people together, it makes perfect sense to me that he would do it. Of course the news is also about concessions Bill will have to make Hillary is asked. What's your thoughts on this news event? Gail Chadbourne

| Posted about 1 month ago I don't know why people would say that you can't pick a formal rival. There's no such thing as can't. I think it's a great move to look at who the best candidate is, no matter what party they are on or if they were your fiercest competitor. If you pick a great leader who's intelligent, respected by many and who can do the job, what's the problem? It also makes sense that you have people who will give you alternate points of view, who are not afraid to question your line of thinking. If someone only wanted to surround themselves with sycophants, I'd question their ability to lead. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hillary would be an excellent choice. The campaigning is over and now it's time to pick the best people for the team. He is even having republicans on his administration, so why not Hillary? ~Angie Angie Toussaint

| Posted about 1 month ago I think Hillary could be an excellent choice. It would be interesting to see how much Bill would be willing to concede. Imagination. . .is the power that enables us to empathise with humans whose experiences we have never shared. (J.K. Rowling) |

| Posted about 1 month ago I have a few reservations about Hillary being SOS but none as profound as her being married to Bill and yes how much he's willing to just sit back and allow her to do the job. She seems to "wink' at him a great deal and that tends to take away from what's going on nationally and globally. I'm more interested in the notion than supportive of it. So far Obama has reconstructed the Clinton Cabinet. There's musical chairs going on there but if speculation holds 16 of the 19 seats will be reminniscent of the Clinton Administration which may have played out well for civilians, I was a solider at the time and it didn't play out so well for us. Millions of us were forced out of our jobs by "military cuts and base closures" while the rest of us were squeezed into jobs that we were not trained to perform. Eventually these cuts hit our supply lines, the bullets, tanks and bombs that everyone seems to think gets cut first. I'm wondering what Hilary's international policy plan would look like. I'm even more concerned about what our new Commander in Chief will do with what remains of our Armed Forces. I am watching to see who he taps for Sec of Defense. I think that if Hillary has a chance to distance herself from the policies of her husband that she should do it. Even during the campaign when she was running strong it all boiled down to one question that kept being asked over and over...What about Bob..I mean Bill? sknight |

| Posted about 1 month ago SKnight, you have made some valid points. I thought most of Obama's cabinet consisted of people from Clinton's administrations? That was such a successful administration for the democrats. I think Obama is wise enough to know if Bill will play a role in Hillary's appointment or not; personally, I doubt it. You, however, seem to have more insight into things based on your experience and I do respect that. Thanks for sharing your experience. ~Angie Angie Toussaint

First, thank you for your service to our country! And second, I could not agree with you more!!! | Posted about 1 month ago Mom2mykids: You're welcome. The service I give to my country is my pleasure. Even though I'm not in uniform anymore I still hold my oath of service to heart. It's one of the reasons I'm becoming a reporter. Angie: I'm just a news junkie my friend. If anyone ever starts a group called News Junkies Annonymous I'm going to be the first member. I did hear a few speculations today about if Hillary even wants the job. She's not given any definate answers and sources close to her are tight lipped about the whole thing. It has been reported by AP that Bill handed over the books on his business ventures for review on Capital Hill to make sure that there were no conflicts of interest and such. I'll stay on top of that too. I'm just wondering how much "Change" we really can believe in if the Administration is one of the past and your VP is named among the insiders of DC insiders. I guess that's what makes politics fun....the wait and see. sknight |

| Posted about 1 month ago If Obama hires Clinton: I am down for his desicion as is...and think its a good idea...personally her connects, experience, know-how, grit & wit, and political suavvy will be of good use to the entire Administration, Democratic party and this USA....She will add a dimension only she can bring to the table and it will unify the whole of the party and nation... | Posted about 1 month ago Well from the news this morning and the leaks it appears the position will be offered to Hillary after Thanksgiving as long as Bill fullfills his end of the bargain. Obama is having everyone fill out this 61 page document to make sure there is NOTHING that will come up to surprise him. Of course that only works if one is writing down the truth. Regardless this is indeed exciting times. SK thank you so much for serving our Country. You have more courage than I do, or did... I doubt they would take me now! Gail Gail Chadbourne

| Posted about 1 month ago I saw that news Gail and I sort of thought it would be a done deal once Bill handed over all of his business financials and such. If I'm not mistaken the SOS has to be confirmed by the Senate right? What do you think that confirmation hearing will look like? The last confirmation I watched was for Chief Justice Roberts and I just fell in love with that man. It gave me chills. (I'm such a nerd) sknight |

| Posted about 1 month ago SK, it appears you are correct in that the senate does have to approve the Secy of State. I highly doubt they would not approve of Hillary. I know she will be highly respected and I believe she will do a much better job than Rice in representing the President and the USA to the world. Gail Chadbourne

| Posted about 1 month ago The US has this reputation of being a bully in the eyes of the world. I'm currently reading a book by Daniel Silva called The Messenger. It's one of those high octane spy thriller things, but there's a quote in there that is just so appropriate. It's the description of a female American CIA agent. "She's an expansionist by nature. She's pure American. She'll conquer your country and then tell you later that it was for your own good and you'll believe her." Do you think Hillary would live up to or change that sentiment? sknight |
