Do you like the idea of having Anonymous forums?I somehow have never wanted to even go through any of them. What's your take?

I think they are useful for the controversial or very personal subjects.

I think it's a good idea because some people feel more comfortable if they can't be identified as having a particular view or issue. Some women may not feel comfortable telling others that they had an abortion, or that they are bipolar, or any of the other topics that have been presented.

I think an anonymous forum is a good thing. Everyone is entitled to free speech, but that doesn't always come comfortably to those who feel vulnerable, or some that don't want a controversial subject to cause negative feedback at themselves. If it is offensive to readers for some reason,or too delicate an issue, readers should know that by reading anonymous posts that they are anonymous for a reason.

"What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself, you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself."

I think they are useful for certain topics that are extremely controversial. The average person is usually not comfortable airing all of their dirty laundry on-line so for that reason it allows people to express it while still being private. I've commented on one or two of those forums..there was one where I forgot to make myself anonymous...oops!

While I don't usually post anything to which I wouldn't put my name, some of the issues tackled in anonymous forums are not only personal, but could affect one at work or in the job hunt.  A particularly sensitive issue for me is mental health.  I have put my name to posts that identify me as having bipolar disorder, but it did occur to me that if someone was considering hiring me for their firm or hiring me as an attorney, it might put them off - however, if I am not willing to come out of the dark with this, I'm perpetuating the misconceptions about people with mental illness.  As long as we're including topics that are not entirely career/employment related, then there seems to be a place for anonymous forums.

I agree with most all of the other posters on this issue. I think it's a good idea. ESPECIALLY for those who want to voice their opinions but would not want it to hurt their business.

I have thought about this. I think that the anon. forum is good for people who wish to get things off their mind without really being known to the world. Sometimes we all need that to heal.
