I am not saying in whom I would endorse....I WILL say, that it is not a 'BLACK/WHITE' issue.  Hell, we almost had a Woman candidate. We need to move forward, and realize that when it comes down to an attack, like 9/11  (which, by the way TODAY is the anniversary of)  it does NOT matter what side of the aisle you're on, if you're Black,White,Male, Female.......We are AMERICANS.

"What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself, you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself."

My truthful view is that I am sick to death of this being a racial issue! America needs to put down that card because it is ruining us! I am talking to white, black, latino...purple green and blue...GET OFF THE ISSUE! We are all human, we all bleed the same, hurt the same and love the same. We are all in this world together and we need to start behaving like it. I do believe America is ready for a black president! I think we need the diversity but if we do get a black president, I dont think it should be because of the color of that person skin or the gender either. I think we need someone strong enough to say enough! I think we need someone who can put his ot her own pocketbook out of the picture and focus on the real America, the America whop has a hard time feeding their children, the America who has to let their children be taught by under educated and under paid teachers, the America who holds this country together! I am not talking about corporate America (even though they are beginning to struggle too) but i am talking about the cashiers at McDonalds and burger king who cant afford to go to colledge and have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet. I am talking about the families who are losing their homes and have nowhere to go.

Race has nothing to do with these things and it will not fix it. I for one get sick to death of people in this country playing the race card!

Well said!

As I mentioned in a forum a month or so ago.  I could care less what color the man is, I don't like his stand on the things that are most important to me.

I know of one person in my family that will not vote for him because of his color, but I have talked with many here in town that are going to vote for him solely bases on his color!  Its funny how one is considered racist and the other is not.  Anyway!

Lets just stick to the issues!  In the big scheme of things does it really matter?  No, we each should, or I hope will vote for the candidate that agrees most with the things that are important to us.

Because of this one line right here (above) I am trying to understand...... If one person can answer this question for me, I will shut my mouth on this subject! This is the question: What did African people do to be hated so much???????? What did we do??? Be honest!!!

I dont know. I wish I did so we could put a stop to it! But understand that racism comes from both sides. I never held slaves and noone in my family ever has, but because i am white i am treated like shit but black folk. that was my pioint in the last post. We as a NATION need to get over this shit or we will fall and the only one we can blame is ourselves. In order to move this country forward, we have to pull together! we cannot continue to make race an issue for anything! its not an excuse, its not a reason for anything but hatred. The longer this country and the people in it give in to that hatred the more divided we will be and I for one am tired of being divided in the UNITED States of America! We need to stop thinking what did we do and start thinking what CAN we do to make thing better!

This is a complicated question and issue.  For many of the people who have issues with black people it is because they were raised in a culture that taught them that black people are of less value than others.  It isn't necessarily a hate issue as a supremecy issue.  Also, some spent a lot of time in areas where the general black population were unemployed and/or tended to be/become criminals and are generalized as lazy.  Again not a hate issue but more of a concern about crime and of fear.  Then there are those extremists who hate because they don't know any better and can't think for themselves or are just sub-standard human beings.  Obviously, all of the above are created by drastic generalizations rather then taking each person on their own merit.  Makes me sick really, it is still an issue and not just for black people.

I have one fear about Obama being elected based on his being half black.  I think some of the majorly offended black people in this country will perhaps feel extreme levels of empowerment to the point of picking fights and perhaps pushing and aggression.  I hope, if he wins, that it doesn't happen.

The same could happen if a woman is elected.  Some extreme feminists may gain an empowerment that takes them over the edge.  Some people just can't handle it well.

I understand completly what you are saying, I so tired of explaining  myself for some bullsht that I had nothing to do with! But I would like all people to like me for who I am and not what I look like. I see the great changes in this new generation of people and that's a good thing! All I'm saying is this country don't belong to one group of people and the sooner that is realized then we CAN move on beyond the BS. You may have not held slaves but somebody did, and I just want to know why?? I treat people like I want to be treated and I'm not taking no shorts on that. Period! It's easy for you to say your'e tired of hearing about it and get over it, but you won't ever know the pain behind it until you lived it. Right now in my life I don't give a shit of what anyone think, but I look at the innocent kids that are born into this crap! You still my girl though majestic! I hope we can agree to disagree and still be friends!

There will be no hard feelings and your right I have no idea what you have been through but I have felt it! I have felt it my entire life! I am hated by whites because I am married to a black man and am viewed as a traitor and I am hated by blacks because I am white and trying to steel their men. Or that I am trying to be black. I have been told I was not allowed on someones property while I was trying to do my job because I was white and on the same job I was in another womans home where she told her 3-4 year old grandson that "see what white folk get for making us slaves...now they work for us". I have felt it. My kids feel it every day when they are constantly told they have to choose sides.  I have to hold  my daughter while she cries because some one called her the N word and then to turn around and have black folk treat her like shit too. My son trying to fit in in middle school and having to choose which side so he can live in peace. I agree these innocent babies should not have to deal with this! I try and try to keep the peace but like you I am at a point in my life where I am tired of keepin my mouth shut too.  I did not choose to be born white and you did not choose to be born black but I am glad we were each born the way we were because maybe WE together black and white can put a stop to it. Together. I am not telling you that you are wrong in how you feel. I am just telling you how I feel on the same issue.  Maybe if more people actually descussed this we could get through this together....you know what I mean?

As far as why someone held slaves...I dont have an answer to that. I never will.

Black people became educated that why we are hated so much.  We are hated because we have great ideas and have created so many of the materials that are used today.  We are hated because our skin does't need a suntan.  We are hated because we have hair that can be braided, curled, permed, straightened, WOW.  We are hated because we always have been able to make through hard times.  If we lose a job, we don't kill the dog, the maid or the kids,  We push back our pride and go to the welfare office and stand in the unemployment line.  We are hated because no one wants to kidnap a kid that doesn't have a silver spoon in their mouth.  We are hated because we will not stop having children.  We are hated because we learned to read, write and teach.  We are hated because we have money markets today.  We are hated because our ancestors died so that we would learn how to speak up for ourselves and for others.  We are hated because we became part of the political game.  We are hated because we found out that we do not have to stay in debt; just file a Chapter 7 and start over again.  We are hated because GOD said, the first will be last; and the last will be first.  Today will are 1St.  We are not hated because of the color of our skin.  We are hated because hurt people; HURT PEOPLE.  Hate is an aweful word and the person that uses it or feels that way is very lonely and need someone to love them.  To those of you who think you hate Black People, I send you my LOVE and there is nothing you can do about it.  Keep coming back to WomenCo. and more will be revealed.  I rest my case!!!

... Not that I want to be the one to go in the back yard, dig up the dead dog, and beat him up one more time -- but I missed this thread a week ago.

I believe the USA is ready for a leader as President - black, white, man, woman - a leader.

As far as race goes -- ? My husband is half-Japanese - and I can tell you - "mixed" blood - is (in my opinion) better looking, healthier and smarter!  - we should all be mixed! If I remember correctly - it's the mother's race that determines the child's race - my grandkids - 3 of them - are exactly like O'bama - white mother, black father - and again -- (sorry if I offend) these children are beautiful, healthy and smart.

I agree with others who have posted here - this is a complex issue - with many, many layers - I watch the obstacles my son-in-law has to deal with - I also watched my husband deal with many of the same obstacles - I've had to deal with many obstacles too -- I don't believe there are simple solutions or answers to make it all - ever- go away.

It's human nature to fear what it doesn't know - it's easier to quantify in general - something you would never do - one on one. Getting to know the unfamiliar changes everything - fear subsides - the light comes on - there's understanding and acceptance.  It's one of the things that has made this country great.

Personally (again - don't mean to offend) I've noticed it is the black communities that are this country's intellectual conscience these days - it is the black communities that have the integrity and the grit to stand up and be heard - we could all take a page ...

I couldnt agree more! when you said "It's human nature to fear what it doesn't know - it's easier to quantify in general - something you would never do - one on one. Getting to know the unfamiliar changes everything - fear subsides - the light comes on - there's understanding and acceptance." I totaly get that! I also think this is a major key to getting this country back on track. This is the UNITED States of America...United, we need to be in order to rise above all the economic and social hardships that we as individuals face. We need to stand together as communities as neighbors and as country men and women so that together we are a united front in the face of our adversaries. without that acceptance of one another, things will never change.

Most of the responses have been well spoken.I couldn't agree more!

United States of America!

United, you stand against your common foe.

Divided (by race ), you fall prey to your enemy.

Your unity in your diversity should be your strength.

My dear black sisters and brothers, please, quit being bitter. When you are embittered, even a friendly wink from one of the opposite race would seem as a dagger into your heart. You would tend to over react on trivial issues.Even if everyone hates you (which is not the case), God loves you and has placed you in that country where you find yourselves. Please, learn a lesson from Joseph of the bible when he found himself a slave in Egypt. Was he not there for a purpose? That purpose would have been jeopardized if he'd had the wrong attitude. Listen, God was aware when your grand parents(my grand aunts and uncles) were carted away to the New Found Land. He permitted it so that America (God's own country) would serve a purpose that He has designed. All the different races born to be US indegenes (red, yellow, purple, green, violet, blue, whatever.....) are required to constitute the formidable force God wants to raise, as almost all the races of the world are there represented.  So chin up.  Our complexions are only skin deep!

And who better to lead a country so blessed, than such a man as Barry Obama who is comprised of genes from the different racial factions. Who better to bridge the gap?

The whole world is watching. Please, Americans( I look up to you), unite and fight the real monster; do not disappoint us!

Stay focused !!

I personally dont care if our next president is paisly its the views that matter and I honestly think that when it comes down to it; when people are in that booth it will be down to the question "shall I vote for  the white guy or the black guy?" For some whacky reason people equate intellectual thinking with skin color this is a sad thing but a true thing.

My husband is having this argument with his cousins husband his ENTIRE reason for voting for  McCain, he says, is because he does not believe unviersal healthcare will work (bull look how much we spent on a war! and bailing out banks and lending agencies who should have known better?) but my husband (who can't vote until next year March and pissed about it) came out and said it "you are voting for McCain because he is white!"  Realize this guy is from the same country as my husband and the guy is very very ignorant in many things.  He did not deny it, but I told him to think, to look at the views not at the skin, to realize that while he is voting for McCain for being 'white' many people  will not vote for him because he is 'old' or vote for Palin for being a 'woman' but those people are only voting for an image not for what is good for the country and its people.

I agree 100%.  I'm sure there are people who this is an issue for, but that has to be such a small percentage why worry about it.  Obviously the USA is ready for a black president.  We are probably going to have one.  I live in the South and when I moved here from California I was SHOCKED by the racism here, blew me away and disgusted me.  When Obama hit the scene I was prepared and ready to do battle with the reaction I expected to face.  Not one time have I heard anyone bring up his color as his issue.  And surprisingly people I believe (but who would deny it) are racist, and prejudiced, are voting for him.  Are excited by him.

how interesting that your husband took not thinking universal health care will work and somehow reasoned that what he really meant was that he isn't voting for Obama because he's black.   How does that equate?  I ask because universal health care scares the piss out of me.

Apart from the most remote regions of the world, I don't think that there exists a single soul who can claim to be "pure" anything.  If we climb far enough down our family trees, cross some branches and pull back some limbs, I'm sure we'd find that some "ethnic leaves" are on our tree that we'd never expected!  Everybody's got a mix of something somewhere down the line.  So...Hi, cousin McKaren!

We've got so many different nationalities in us my mom used to say we were "Heitz 57"

He did not deny it, but I told him to think, to look at the views not at the skin, to realize that while he is voting for McCain for being 'white' many people  will not vote for him because he is 'old' or vote for Palin for being a 'woman' but those people are only voting for an image not for what is good for the country and its people.

how interesting that your husband took not thinking universal health care will work and somehow reasoned that what he really meant was that he isn't voting for Obama because he's black.   How does that equate?  I ask because universal health care scares the piss out of me.

Nepal, like India, is built on a caste system, the darker you are the more 'unpure' you are.  My husband knows his culture and knows this guy; I had pointed out to him that while we were visiting the house that the boys mother was being ignored....by everyone, even her son to a digree.....except me and my husband which surprised them.  When we got home I asked why, he told me, she is from a small village and his cousins parents are from the city.  She will be viewed invisible or below them.  My husband finds these views  discusting and moved to this country to get away from this kind of thinking, but some of these guys keep with these views and use them to  view other people.  He infact does not want Obama because of the skin color universal health care was his graceful excuse to not just come out and say it.

Healthcare in general needs an over haul, everything is privatized and in the business of making money, not doing what it is supposed to be doing, saving lives.  Been to a hospital recently?  The lack of compassion the lack of actual 'care' is disgraceful.  I myself do not know if universal healthcare is the way but something needs to be done.  Watching that video of that person dying on the floor of the hospital with not even a glance from the staff was horrifying!

I agree with McKaren a MIXED pup is a cuter pup, I myself am a mixed pup, my cousin is half indonesian/scotish/native american/viking/Irish pup and judging by how many girls coo at him since he was a baby (and how many girls want to be his 'girlfriend' now) he will be a lady killer.  My husband the sexy beast shows we will have some of the cutest little pups in the world!
