Three years ago the son that I was forced to give up for adoption found me.  It was a roller coaster ride to say the least.  Trying to mesh this person that I longed for with my daughters has had many ups and downs.  With his return all of the feelings that I had buried emerged with a vengeance.  It was like a tidal wave that I could not stop.  I pretty much crumbled under the weight of it all.  As a therapist I realized that my time had come to face what I had long pushed aside.  My childhood, my son's birth and being forced to give him up, an abusive marriage, being a single parent and the sole breadwinner and my sons return.  It was too much and so I began to write about all of those feelings.  It emerged in the form of poetry...very freestyle and unconventional poetry.  It is me in my most vulnerable forms.  I feel strongly that I have something to say to women who are in desperate, heartbreaking situations.   That what I have spoken will help them to find their voice and learn that there is growth in pain and hope in sorrow.  I feel that the last step to this written journey is to be able to share mine with others.  I have researched trying to publish but as many of you know there are many bogus companies out there and to succeed in publishing is difficult especially with poetry.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks for listening and for the advice.  Candy

The best thing to do is to contact a legitimate publisher who is looking for writers, and I have the name of one somewhere on my desk.  It's rather late at night here, but I'll get that for you and post it.  Have you also considered e-publishing yourself?  Online works are also protected by copyright laws, and there's a website that explains that, so I'll get that to you, as well.  I have it bookmarked, so I can get it to you soon.  If I come up with anything else in the meantime, I'll let you know.  I hope that you get it published, it must be a powerful book!

Hi Sarah.  Thankyou for the tips and advice.  I appreciate the information that you will be sending me.  I believe that it is powerful but that may be my own bias.  It has been a real journey for me and it is not complete yet.  I have a future ahead of me that I am moving into; new career, wanting to relocate, to have friends that I can laugh with and support and be supported.  I guess that I am likened to a caterpillar that is transforming into a butterfly.  Just struggling to break the cocoon.  Thanks again.  Candy
