Oprah and Sarah Palin

Posted 2 months ago What do you think of Oprah not wanting to interview Sarah Palin on her show. Everyone is scrambling to book her and find out what she's about. Although Oprah is a staunch supporter of Barack Obama, she can be a formidable person to face in interviews. News reports indicate that her staff is split down the middle on trying to book Mrs Palin. Sarah Palin might help her party by not appearing and having to answer the tough questions Oprah would surely ask. What is your opinion? "What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself, you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself." |

| Posted 2 months ago Its her show and she can basically do what she wants. She's backed Obama and I can see why she wouldn't want Sarah Palin on her show. She wouldn't want to do anything to make Palin look any better than she already does. Jean Bentley

| Posted 2 months ago SenderofCards, I understand just what you mean. I was wondering if anyone thought differently since it was apparently so "newsworthy". Any takers?

Of course I could be wrong, it could just be that she doesn't want her show used as a political battle ground. But as you mentioned she is a good interviewer and it would be interesting to hear Sarah Palin/s anawers to Oprahs tough questions. Jean Bentley

I agree, I would like to hear her answer to the question of 1. Why the hell she thought the Iraq War was "Task that is from God." 2. Why she is running for a government office of the United States when she was from a party that wanted independance from America. I would especially like to hear the answer to 2. Why run for an office of a country you do not want to be apart of? "The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough."-Randy Pausch |

| Posted 2 months ago I'm with Oprah on this! Then again..... every time I hear this woman speak, she munches on her ankles!! ;) (Palin, not Oprah) So, Oprah's staff probably has it about right, but I agree with our esteemed 'card sender' that it is her show after all and she can do what she feels is appropriate! |

| Posted 2 months ago I don't agree w/ everything abt Oprah but I still enjoy many of her shows. I've been recording/watching Oprah for years - since the 90s. It seems like, over the last several years, that when it comes to politics/religion she has ppl on her show who she agrees with. Being that she is an Obama supporter, I won't be surprised if she never has Palin/McCain on. Has anyone watched the Tyra Banks show. She had Obama and the other guy that's no longer running (grrr I can't think of his name). I appreciated her non-biased interviews w/both of them. I hope she'll interview McCain (or hopefully I haven't missed it!). Please, don't take offense here, this is just my opinion: I have done some digging on both sides & have watched debates and both conventions. I feel more convinced abt Obama/Biden than McCain/Palin. I am just not seeing the strength in many areas. Even the republican convention seemed so weak IMO! I was dissapointed bc I'd honestly like to an equal strength from both sides. ~“I love debate. | Posted 2 months ago I'm just going to throw this out there and please put away all weapons. If Oprah had Barack Obama on her nationally televised show, and she does not want to interview Sarah Palin, for whatever reason, does that make her a racist? "What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself, you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself." |

| Posted 2 months ago Fabulous question. Let me pose this as a response to you Watchnstarz44; let's say Sally Jesse Raphel backed McCain/Palin, only interviewed Palin and was caught SHEDDING TEARS at the republican convention for Palin and then refused to interview Obama, what would be all over the news the follow day? I can't watch Oprah. I hear she does some wonderful things. But honestly the woman can infuriate me. |

| Posted 2 months ago I used to watch Oprah, but all of her shows are very much alike. Part of my dislike came from her endorsement of Dr. Phil, whom I think is an arrogant whack job. I do admire her charitable works. If I were Oprah, I would jump at the chance to interview a woman who may be the next vice president, but it is her show. If the McCain/Palin team does not win the election, it was still a great feat for a woman to run for VP. |

Most likely she would be called a racist! But for some unknown reason it seems to me that only whites are called racist! I don't understand why. Jean Bentley

| Posted 2 months ago dcowan, Oprah and Racism would not be used in the same sentence to most. The very facts prove in this case that she is. She chooses a black man to appear on her platform ( her show) which in itself is not an issue. The news that she Refuses to interview Palin, even to the point of splitting her staff over the issue tells you something else about her. When did backing a candidate become so important that it causes reverse racism? "What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself, you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself." |

| Posted 2 months ago I think it's far-fetched to be pulling the race card. I don't think she's interviewed every other presidential candidate since she's had her show and is just NOW excluding one white man just bc there's a black man running. And obviously she hasn't chosen black over white or white over black in the past for this or any other issues. If that were the case, I could see ppl thinking it. I feel that this campaign stands out from all the others and ppl have a much stronger opinion/hope than they did the last time around - considering the difference in candidates in comparison w/ the last election (even w/out the milestones of race/gender that have finally been crossed). ~“I love debate. | Posted 2 months ago This was taken directly off of Oprah's message board posted by one of her fans I applaud your support of Sen. Obama. I know you caught a lot of flack for it, but you did it. I think, however, that you are making a HUGE mistake by not having Gov. Palin on your show prior to the elections. You've had Sen. Obama on a couple of times in addition to your endorsement and you schmoozed ad nauseam with the Clintons. Given your endorsement, there is no need to further pull the democratic candidate on to your show, the world knows he has your support. (By the way, I was so happy to see you follow your heart and head in your public support of Sen. Obama.) You always are right on the spot doing your news reporting and bringing current topics to the people with an intelligent eye. Ignoring Gov. Palin yourself whilst your radio people are giving their "expert" opinions on her and her family's lives is rude and detrimental to your image as a fair woman. I'm sure you are more than aware that your silence is screaming your own message. You are, Oprah, using your show as a platform for your candidate - by omission. It's also very hard to believe that "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show".

| Posted 2 months ago It would be good for Oprah to invite Palin. Oprah can ask some question that will make you or break you. Maybe Palin could just talk about women issues regarding her daughter for one. Vice President of the United States - I don't think so!!!! Gwen1215 |

| Posted 2 months ago gwen1215 says ... Please don't take offense to the following...I am more on the Obama side, but someone's child's choices have nothing to do with my reasoning. How many out there had great parents, but actually made some mistakes while growing up. Did they blame good parents? Hopefully not! A lot of ppl think Clinton was great, he had an affair! We live in an inperfect world. Look at Bush, many aren't satisfied w/his leadership (to say the least), but what negative stuff did we have prior or even now to point out regarding him/his families' personal life? Not much! When someone's daughter makes a mistake, it isn't necessarily a reflection on mom. We have no idea what goes on in their family life. We all have many imperfections in our own families, so we have no room to judge. I'm sure there are many, many things much worse than this abt many of our leaders that are worthy of our questioning of their position. ~“I love debate. | Posted 2 months ago I'm actually disapointed at Oprah. She is a fine interviewer and I would think regardless of her political feelings she would want to ask questions, and get the story. Regardless of personal feelings, this is a major happening in our country. It's dynamic, it's thought provoking - and that goes for the entire election and all of the candidates to boot. I would think if anyone could pull off the interview it would be Oprah because...well...she's Oprah and that's what she does best. It's not who you are that holds you back. It's who you think you're not. - Unknown |

| Posted 2 months ago Oprah is one of the most powerful women in the world and didn't get to where she is being nice. She's shrewd and she doesn't have to waste her time. I don't believe she is a racist - that was a bit unnecessary . Personally, I don't think Oprah takes Palin seriously and wants nothing to do with her until Palin proves herself.
On Obama, he's part of the Chicago elite, another reason for Oprah to support him and she appears to genuinely likes him - maybe she knows something we don't. I'm a bit p o' d right now with the self-righteousness of the love fest with Obama and Oprah. Chicago has was one of the most dysfunctional, disparately funded, public school system's in America. Talk about have and have nots. Why has Oprah not taken a more active role in straightening out the politics in her own city? Obama could've certainly helped as a Community Organizer.
Anyone have any information on that?

| Posted 2 months ago http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/09/sarah-palin-opr.html Here is a link to the LA Times discussing the same topic. You have comments on this article which supports both sides. However, words objected to in our discussion, as well as "biased" are in the text submitted. I have watched Oprah for a long time, and she influences millions. That is why I'm interested in the backlash of her own fans, and people in general, since she has long been a huge supporter of uplifting women and not a political backer. "What you do for yourself - any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself - will affect how you experience your world. | Posted 2 months ago Really good thread here -- really good questions. I think -- if Oprah doesn't want to interview Palin that's her call. Sitting face to face with someone - answering tough questions -- will tell us alot about Palin - but I really doubt we'll see anyone getting that chance -- let alone Oprah. I get the impression that the RC is going to decide if and when Sarah Palin participates in any interviews -- and it really smacks of -- "you'll know what we want you to know -- nothing more, nothing less; she's great because we said so". I would love to see someone do an interview with her -- just to listen to her answers -- to any hard questions. There's been some very disturbing information going around about her -- the more I hear the more disturbed I feel. The American people deserve to see her in many interview situations so we can draw our own conclusions on the kind of character and strength she might (or might not) possesss, Come Election Day are we really supposed to make up our minds based on spoon fed information - fantasies vs facts? |
