Posted 2 months ago Here I am starting my new life in Maui...left my job after 23 yrs...and I guess my anxiety level is higher than I expected! I am looking for ways to relax to tell myself all will be fine....I have never branched on my own before...and I have a great skin rash that tells me I am scared under the surface! Help! has this happened to any of you? I have never been healthier with my food intake...or my exercise regime...am on my way to work out now...maybe no IPOD today to concentrate on healing myself? :-) |

| Posted 2 months ago First of all, CONGRATS to you on starting your new life! That's awesome that you get to do it on Mau'i, too. :) My sister has had episodes like what you describe when she gets stressed - she does yoga to calm down. I agree with TallAnna - breathe, believe in yourself and take advantage of the beauty of the area. Go to the beach, go exploring, visit 'Iao needle: http://www.hawaiiweb.com/maui/html/sites/iao_valley_state_park.html, do the touristy things in Lahaina, visit the Mau'i Ocean Center: http://www.mauioceancenter.com/, take a drive out to Hana: http://alternative-hawaii.com/special/mns.htm., the possibilities are endless there for things to that will relax and entertain you. The Humpback whales should be returning soon - you can see them breaching from the road a lot of the times: http://www.barefoot-in-maui.com/maui-whale-watching.html. Lots of fun stuff to do and interesting people to meet. I personally love moving to new places and getting to know new people and experience what the area has to offer - it's so exciting! Have fun and hope your rash goes away soon! |

| Posted 2 months ago Hey lady - I agree with other posters, yoga rocks, deep breathing rocks. However, sometimes when I'm as freaked as I can be, I listen to a guided meditation. One of my favorites: Gael Chiarella - http://www.yokibics.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1001 - I like the 'Living Peace' CD - none of them are longer than 15 minutes. She has the most SOOTHING voice - AND - it doesn't make me want to laugh (I'm sorry, but some guided meditations out there have either really goofy dramatic music, OR the person guiding/speaking sounds SO melodramatic - I crack up easily unfortunately.) This is a CD; however, you can probably download some guided meditations off of iTunes...I just already had these 2 CD's so I ripped 'em for my iPod. I sure hope they do the trick. 15 minutes a day for awhlie. See if that doesn't improve your mental state of mind. Phyllis R. Neill, www.shementor.com |

| Posted 2 months ago Hey Deneen, I agree that taking a very deep breath is important to slow you down. How about going for a nice walk after dinner and just letting your mind wander. Maybe sit by the water and take it all in. When I am really, really stressed I listen to those relaxation CD's. Like the one with the river sounds, or raining pouring, etc. It's not who you are that holds you back. It's who you think you're not. - Unknown |

| Posted 2 months ago These are all great suggestions. Also allow yourself time to adjust to so many changes that have all come at once. We can set off on a path that we've chosen and still feel tremendous anxiety. With time you will establish new routines, relationships, favorite hang outs, business connections, etc. (In 1990 my husband and I went overseas for several years with his job - I left friends, family, career, home, etc., for a country I had never even visited. It took me about six months to find my feet.) Jane G. Chambers

| Posted 2 months ago OMG you are all so fantastic and providing me exactly what I need...I needed to hear that I can do it! Just Breathe is my new mantra...the rash is subsiding already..I am sure things will turn out ok. It sure helps to hear it from positive women. I am going to be joining a canoe club soon and am looking into helping local non-profits to volunteer...and will be taking in the local scenery! You all are the best! Thank you so much for caring and for helping me in my time of need!!! You are all wonderful and uplifting!!! I appreciate you! :-) |
Sometimes it's so easy to forget the most simple, necessary things in life. Trust that you know how to take care of you, and give yourself the time & space to transition into this new chapter of your life! Enjoy the beaches, the sun, the sites, the food, the culture. And take things one day at a time.
