If I had the day to visit your city, town, etc.  what would you tell me to visit as points of interest? Best food? Best antique store, etc.

Cedar Creek Lake is a popular place for boating and fishing around my area.  There is a thriving antique neighborhood that I like to haunt.  In Athens there are a lot of interesting places to visit.  It is a popular place for people to retire as well.  There is an Arboretum that is beautiful year round, and then there is The Cain Center, which is utilized for all types of events, including swimming meets. There are the walking trails and tennis courts, etc.

Next time I post I'll tell you about a different location.  I know other people have interesting things to offer.  It's not all about East Texas

If you ever make it up to my neck of the woods -- I'll be your personal guide!  I live in what we call Northern Virginia -- just a stone's throw from the Capital; Georgetown, the Kennedy Center -- Old Town Alexandria -- Mount Vernon, Middleburg (horse country).  There's the blueridge mountains just down the way and incredible wetlands, waterways; not to mention the Chesapeake Bay.  Wow- I could go on and on -- great shopping -- great restaurants -- tons of entertainment.  Really - if you ever get up this way, let me know what you like and I'll get more specific!

McKaren,

I might have to come your way just by your description and the promise of a personal guide!

I'd put the RaggTopp down on my car, and drive you down Lamar St. to Guadalupe, making a stop at Amy's, then continue on Lamar until I turn left on 7th St. so that we could backtrack to IH-35 in order to cruise the entire length of 6th St. all the way back to Lamar.  Then I'd pull in the parking lot, make the obligatory visits to Book People and Whole Foods, then hop back in the RaggTopp, cruise up to the Capitol for their outstanding tour, pay our respects to the Bob Bullock Museum, and drive South on Congress Ave until the weirdness ends.  Then we head back to the bridge, stopping for a to-go plate along the way, and park at the American-Statesman to watch the bats.  Then we go back to 6th St. and walk until the music streaming from an open door becomes a siren song.

I hadn't realized there were so many from outside of Texas here (what Texans call "furriners"), else I'd have made it clear I was talking about Austin.

Food-chopped BBQ for a taste of tradition, Salty Caper for great pizza and unusual beer.  Their local brewerey and they mix beer with strange things that are actually great.  Lake Norman for the people and the relaxation.  Charlotte for the entertainment.  Dan Nicholas park for the  beauty of the area.  Animals, merry-go-round, gem mine, paddle boats on the pond, walking trails through the woods.  The dragstrip for the national attention, more fun than the speedway.  Home to chill out with my babies.

I lived in Greenville, SC for two years.  Always went up to Charlotte and beyond into Great Smoky Mountains NP for fall leaf-watching.  I was just thinking about that Sunday when we got the first tease of cool weather.

Come on down to New Braunfels ... Lots to do here . We could take in some good Texas BBQ for lunch at Granzins. Spend the afternoon in Gruene ( old cotton city ) checking out the old shops, looking at antiques , enjoying the wine tasting . Then i'd take you tubing down the Guadalupe River.... After a long day of activities we'd take in a late dinner at Nopalitas and enjoy some good ole Tex-Mex food.

If you find yourself here in November then check out our Wurstfest. Lots of Beer and lots of sausage . The way germans do it :)

Meileen, my sister-in-law in College Station goes to the outlet malls in San Marcos at least twice a year, religiously.  In fact, we jokingly call it her "pilgrimage to Mecca"!

  • Morning, we'd go have breakfast at IHOP - everyone loves it right?

  • Then we'd go antiquing in this little town near mine, cause they have great deals.

  • For lunch we'd have to travel outside of the suburb to visit Zyka (Authentic Indian Food) & no matter what you ordered, I'd force you to try the Butter Chicken (aka Chicken Makani).

  • Six Flags Over Texas (Cause I haven't been in so long & it'll be fun!) for the rest of the day!!

There really isn't a lot to do in my part of the state(Fort Hood)...  :(  But it's a couple hours drive from some really cool things. I would take you to the 1st Cavalry Division Museum on Ft. Hood, and we could go to BLORA, it's a lake with a whole bunch of water recreational activities and can picnic there. But other than that, me and DH drive to San Antonio(2 hr drive, going there today actually) every now and then to visit his family. So far we've been to the River Walk Boat Rides, which takes you on a boat ride through a lot of historical and interesting sites. It's not very long, but worth it. And we've been to Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, and almost went to the House Of Wax(he said it was kinda creepy, we agreed not to go lol). And have also been boating on Canyon Lake, it was the first time I tried...um, don't know the name of it...wake boarding? Getting pulled behind the boat while your feet are strapped into a snowboard lookin thing...Like I said, not to much in my imediate area, but about a 2 hr drive can get you to those things I mentioned plus Six Flags, Natural Bridge Caverns, I think Schitterbahn(sp ???) isn't that far either, the Alamo, which I still haven't gone to yet, plus some other things that dh wants to take me to(he's a natural born Texan, born and raised lol, I've only been here since 2004)

The town I live in has some excellent restaurants and some cool beaches too. We are only 45 minutes from Boston to the north ..and 45 minutes to Cape Cod headed  south. The fun things to do could fill a lifetime- and it does!

I love Massachusetts! I would love to be there now to see the fall colors!

If you came to Portland? Hmmm--- we have a lot of amazing restaurants. Some of my favorites downtown are Kell's Irish Pub and Higgins (gourmet Northwest cuisine). We have a beautiful Japanese garden, a museum of science and industry(OMSI), art galleries, miles of walking and biking trails, a waterfront park along the Willamette River. There are bistros and great coffee places tucked into neighborhoods all over the place. We have more brew pubs than just about anyone. Bibliophiles must see Powell's City of Books

For lovers of culture, there is the Portland Art Museum, Oregon Symphony (free outdoor concerts in neighborhood parks in the summer), the Portland Opera, the ballet, and lots of independent theatre groups. Saturday Market is a sheltered outdoor market for local artisans and street performers.

An hour to the west is the ocean with miles of protected public access beaches. To the west is Mt. Hood. (skiing, snowboarding, etc)

Actually, just about anything you like to do, you can find here.

There are a lot of great things to do in Kansas City. Local artists are great and I know a few local art shops that are wonderful. The local food is good and we have everything. I prefer the local hangouts and the smaller museums because they give a real feel to what KC is like. The art museum is great, the plaza, downtown. I like to go to the small local bars on Saturday or Sunday afternoon to hear local bands. Especially the local jazz and blues.

there is lots to do in sunny california. i live in beautiful pasadena, home of the rose parade. in pasadena there are so many scenic routes to see and a lot of shopping to do. you might see a celebrity or two shopping or eating.  there are some many amusement parks to see such as knotts berry farm( which is my favorite), disneyland(if you go on a wkend, good luck because its get toootally pack), magic mountain(don't go if you have heart conditions), and there is universal studios(its small but toootally fun). california is the best from northern side to the south side of california. san diego is beautiful and the food is great. oh there you have sea world(fun, fun, fun!!) california has sooo much to see.  if you would like to see the rose parade, come on down. i live half a block away from colorado blvd and you can get great seats(you just have to bring your own chairs).
