Posted 9 months ago My mom keeps giving me old-school career advice. "Only have two drinks at the company party" (You mean just two drinks from each open bar, right?) "Don't show your knees at work" (Ok, I guess I'll have to throw out every skirt I own) "Don't date someone you work with" (But Mooooommmm he's so cute) "Don't curse" (But I am sorry it was a shitty idea!) OK OK OK, I know I SHOULD follow these things, but doesn't that just take the spark and fun out of working, which is something you have to do everyday for the rest of your life??!?! Isn't there a different between appropriate versus conservative versus uptight? |

| Posted 9 months ago Thats so funny! Especially the one about drinking. I do care about my image at work because I want to be respected...but I'm definitely happy to let as much of my natural personality out at work as is possible...and for me, that involves four letter words on occasion. As for knees...they are completely acceptable in 2008! Midriffs and crazy cleve is not. |

I think that work cultures need to be a little more accepting of all parts of their employees' lives - you can't just take the good (work time, ethics) and leave the bad (off days, family crises). if i am spending 10-12 hours/day a work, i expect to be myself more times than not. "Don't make an ass out of yourself" is good advice for life, and i think it's good enough for me at work. |

| Posted 3 months ago For me, I agree w/ the drink thing, bc if I get more than 2 I'll start getting all giggly. I've never dated anyone from work, but I don't see an issue w/ it as long as you leave it away from work - the flirting, the kissing, etc. But ,if it's against policy, you're always taking a risk of looking unprofessional in your co-workers eyes - not to mention the chance of losing your job/being repremanded. I guess those risks are the fun part for some. I agree w/ not cursing - I know that we all slip up from time to time, but I would and have felt very disrespected when a co-worker makes a habit of cussing at work. I wouldn't speak to a superior that way either and of course I don't expect to have to listen to it alot either. The don't show your knees thing - well what's wrong w/ showing your knees? If I had pretty knees, I'd show 'em all the time. As long as you're not wearing a mini skirt or showing your belly, butt, panties, etc., what's the harm? | Posted 4 days ago well i guess it just depends on what your job is...and how close you are with your co-workers. see, i work as he receptionist for a very succsesive company, called Design works Cutsom Painting... at MY company parties..we always have so much alchohol..and we all take 3 shots together as co-workers. Supervisor managers and Everything!! as for the cursing..we all cuss every now and then, with an occasional " oh shit, or damn" but only amungst us, like when its just US at the office. If there is someone their that does not work for us, we stay very proffesional, and you would never hear us cuss then. AS FOR THE DATING, my manager, and the super-intendant just recently GOT MARRIED! so their goes that.. and as far as the dont show your knees at work, i think fingertip legnth is fine. were in 2008 now, cmon...
