I had been taking surveys for about a year from a company called E-rewards.  You earn cash that you can buy things through their site.  I just recently got 6 months of free videos and blockbuster and some magazine subscriptions.  What I just found out yesterday is there are tons of these survey companys out there and some pay cash.  I got involved yesterday and am going to try and make it my home business.  Surveys are just that, there is no selling involved.  You just give your opinion.  In my searching I found one company that pays $300 a piece for their surveys (although you do have to be a member of their group that costs about $70).  Some pay $40-$150 per survey, some as little as $5.  Some have you earn points and when you get a certain amount of points you can exchange it for cash.  I found a few that don't give cash but give gift certificates to places like Best Buy.  It will turn into a full time job for me because I want to make a better salary than when I was working, but I look at it this way.  I'm in front of this computer most of the day anyway, why not earn cash too.

Just wanted to pass on that I have had the experience of working for a scam at home company and never receivced any money, gifts, points. I have now learned how to do background checks on these company. I do know that any of the companies that ask for money up front are for the most part are scams.

If you have office administrative experience, have you considered working as a virtual assistant?  (I don't have experience with virtual assistants, but I think others at WomenCo. have.)

I work from home.  50% is done from my computer, the other half I'm out meeting potential clients, networking, etc.

Rureinin,

Can you share how you do background checks on work from home employers? The information would be helpful to other posters considering these types of jobs. I am sorry you were scammed.

Thanks

You can go to sunoasis and find work doing writing, if you can do that.  You could also approach publishing companies for anything that they may have.  I guess the thing to do is find what you're good at doing on the computer, then find who could use that service, get some cards printed up and then go out and convince people that you're the best one to do it for them.

Rureinin is absolutely right and you should check out any company before you do anything with them including paying fees.  Now seeing as I've been getting paid to do this since I was in high school I had a little more information.  The membership fee I paid gives me unlimited access to thousands of websites where I can get those surveys.  Also the big company that pays $300 per survey won't even talk to you unless you have a current membership.  Now I could have spent a lot of time looking up all these websites myself, but thousands of web sites?  Who has that kind of time?  I looked at my $50 investment as something no different than the fee you pay for the privilege to shop at a Sam's Club.

Be aware, there are scammers out there and I noticed in my membership package they even give you the name of some of the scammers so you can be aware.

I'm sorry you got scammed Rureinin, but you can't let that leave a bad taste in your mouth.  Just learn from it and be more diligent next time.  I got scammed early on in my writing career and learned my lesson big time.  Now everything gets researched first.

I am now a single parent. Not by choice either. So I have to  get a job but I still need to be here for my kids. Help please??!! I know if you have to pay to start working that its not good to do. So how do you start to work from home. I dont want to own my own company. But I need to make real money to pay bills each month. I have no training in any field ,so does anyone have any ideas? I am willing to work hard and long hours everyday to make this work.

I think sometimes people have an image that working from home is easy - it is not. And starting something that will "make you real money" often requires that you are willing to go out on your own. I also think it is important to realize that no job is in a vacuum. If you find an employer that will let you work from home, it typically will not be every day. If you start your own business or outsource your talents to a company that will outsource you (like AssistantMatch.com or Peridot Productions peridotprod.com - both legitimate companies I know the owners) you have to develop a relationship and prove your worth to get steady work.

I love working from home, but it has required tremendous discipline, dedication, and an investment in time and energy (and sometimes money to network and get the word out) to really make it financially viable. THAT is why it’s legitimate and a money maker!
