There are a lot of Texas folks represented in WomenCo.  They need to come join us.  I'll tell you where I'm from and each of you might want to see how much of Texas that we cover.    Malakoff(East Texas)

I am from Texas and proud of it!  Born in Arizona (military brat) but got to Fort Worth as quickly as I could (at 6 weeks old)!  New to WomenCo. but being made to feel right at home...

How is everyone doin? Texas weather has been pretty good lately. What do yall think? Kids are back in school, thank goodness, i love them bunchies but they were drivin me nuts!! lol!!  So what do Texas gals do in there spare time. I try reading and cleaning and cookin, but that gets old after a while. I really need to work out in the yard..so I guess thats next. Maybe i will go volunteer at the hospital or the schools?  Is there anyone that does these things?

Angela,

You've got way too much time on your hands!  I have gone and spent a morning at the animal shelter.  I go to Goodwill and buy blankets for the cats and dogs.  When animals are first brought in, just a blanket eases the trauma a little.

You can make baby blankets for NICU babies.  They have a specific size and material they prefer, but the hospitals would let you know what that is.   Sometimes the hospitals need babies to be rocked in specific cases, you just  have to meet their criteria and need.

A visit to the nursing home for no other reason than to listen and be friendly to someone who no longer has family will lift your spirits as much as theirs.

Volunteer at a battered women's shelter. You will be thankful for what you have at home.  Clean out your closets and take them to the local missionary type association that knows the needs of folks just getting by.

Volunteer at the elementary school.  They always have a need for an extra hand, even if it's reading a story to five year old.

You get the idea. I could go on, and on, and on.

my father is from el paso and now my parents are back in el paso. i visit from time to time. but there is nothing to do out there. i ask my cousins," what do you do for fun?" they're rely is eat and drink.  so many bars and restuarants to choose. the life style in texas is tooo slow for me. i come from pasadena, california and the life style out here is fast, so texas is to mellow for me. but texas will always be my home.

I'm from Washington state, but came here in 2004 on orders for Fort Hood when I was in the Army. Been here since, and the weather, totally different than Wa, is somewhat unenjoyable(is that a word???)I mean, it's ok, but it's way to hot and HUMID for me here in the summer. But other than that, it's my new home now :) and am happy to be starting my family here, although I wish we lived in a different part, maybe closer to San Antonio. The Killeen/Fort Hood area is too small for me, not much to do! Also, what is up with the taco stands lol??? Washington borders CANADA, and there were tons of taco stands everywhere! Maybe I'm just in the wrong area, but I sure do miss the taco stands, haven't seen a single one since I've been here...
