As most of you know, I'll be relocating SOMEWHERE in the next few months. I currently don't have any business cards, but find myself wanting/needing some for those times when I'm 'networking'. I really don't want to spend money on business cards that'll only be good for the next few months because my address will be changing. Any suggestions on what I can do.

Check out "Features" above.  Pay shipping only for Business Cards from VistaPrint.

www.vistaprint.com

Or order them with your name, email address and cell phone.  Those won't be changing.  Just a thought.

I thought about just adding the pertinent information, but then I started thinking the card may not look at professional without the mailing address.

Antoinette -

Maddie is right - VistaPrint really is the best site for business cards. They have a lot of designs to choose from. I just bought a whole bunch for my side business. They even have an options for an electronic version so you can e-mail your card to people (but there is cost for that one).

Thanks for the info Daniela.

Do you think it's professional not to include a mailing address on the business cards?

The link to our free biz cards, btw, is on our home page and also under the Features section.

Well, it depends -- do you need to be contacted at your mailing address for anything on a constant basis in your field of business? For me, all I give is my email address... so it's really up to you!

Thanks for the information...I'll look into it.

I guess I want the cards for more personal networking than business networking anyway. I don't own my own business (yet), and I'm an accounting assistant, so professionally people contact me at work. So, maybe just my email and cell phone would be sufficient.

If your business is a home business you shouldn't put your address on it.  I used to worry about that too and for a while was moving a lot.  Each time I had to have new cards done then someone hit me with identity theft (my ex-husband, geez big surprise there) anyway when I was getting everything straightened out I gave one of the police officers my card.  He told me that unless you have a commercial business or a home business where you have to have customers mail things to you, you should not include your home address anyway.  He said basically if you only include phone numbers and emails if someone starts to hassle you, it's easier to change a phone number or email address than it is to move.  Until I get my commercial building I won't put my address on my cards.  If a vendor I am using now needs the address I supply it for him.  I only had one person lately ask for my address and I knew it was OK so I gave it to them.  I have designed beautiful cards that include just this information but a nice graphic so no one really notices that there is no address on them.  Hope this helps.

Cindy - I hadn't thought about the identity theft aspect of things. I don't have to answer the phone or email, but if a fool is at your house, that's a horse of a different color. Thanks for the information, that helps a lot.

I have one last question about Business Cards....since I don't have a business, and will be using these cards mainly for networking, what type of graphics should the card contain? should it be something eye catching or something simple?

My personal ones are cream-colored with black lettering.  My name in larger letters in the center.  Obviously, since they are for personal use, no job title.

Address, phone numbers and email evenly balanced on the bottom, left and right justified.  No graphics at all.

I was going for simple and, I think, classic.

They work for me!

vistaprint does offer some really great designs.  Mine is the water one, just a simple, blue background that is like the sea or something.  You can get a matching website, which is really cool, and it can all be for nothing more than networking if that is what you need it for.  You can put as little or as much as you like.  You can also choose your own domain, which is included for free, and they let you try it for one month for free.

There is one on vistaprint that's purple with a purple flower. I think the card exemplfies my personality and love for flowers (although I'm allergic to them), but I thought the purple was too dark for networking purposes.

I keep a roladex of all the business cards I receive.  Periodically I go through them to just send a note to keep the contact up.  The ones that catch my eye that I will always hang on to even if I don't have any business with them is the ones with the eye catching colors or graphics.  I learned in one of my classes that if you want to get noticed you need to do things to get noticed.  Whenever we send out a packet to a new agent or publisher we send it in a colored foil envelope.  If it happens to wind up in a slush pile, someone looking through it will tend to pull out a colored envelope over the hundreds of standard manilla ones.  Same goes for the cards.  Just don't over-do it.  Too busy will turn people off as well.
