| Description: | Derek Vineyard (EDWARD NORTON, Rounders, Primal Fear), the charismatic leader of a group of young white supremacists, lands in prison for a brutal, hate-driven murder. Upon his release, ashamed of his past and pledging to reform, Derek realizes he must save his younger brother, Danny (EDWARD FURLONG, Pecker), from a similar fate. A groundbreaking controversial drama about the tragic consequences of racism in a family, American History X also stars Fairuza Balk, Elliott Gould, Stacy Keach, and Beverly D'Angelo. |
When I first started watching American History X, I had to stop because it made me so angry. Once I made my way through it, I fell in love with it. It is a story of redemption and how hate is a vicious cycle.
This is a good movie but as Kayla mentioned the beginning of the movie is a bit hard to get through.
My daughter brought this home for me to watch. I didn't like it at first either but it is a really good movie and I have let my son watch it. I was angry too.
i watched this with my friend Brian every weekend of our freshman year. I love it.
Very powerful film, yet a great film. Ed Norton "owns" his role. He is an incredible actor, and was perfect for this part. Disturbing at times, however that is the society we live in, unfortunately. However we mothers need to keep close tabs on our children and never lose sight of them. There is no such thing as a "nosy mother" they are the best!
Breathe Taken Tumbs up!
just as significant as "CRASH" -- this film was way ahead of its time!! An intense and visceral account of HATE in its purest form; yet leads to transformation. The best kind of redemption is found in change, which this film artistically displays without fluff.
I still cannot even THINK about the scene where Ed Norton's character puts the fellow's upper jaw on the sidewalk and (you know what) without my skin crawling. I saw the movies years ago and had dreams about that scene years afterward. Powerful, tragic statement about our society.
This was quite a thought-provoking movie. The acting was top-notch. It's definitely not for those nights when you're looking for something to escape from the problems of the day, but it might help put them in perspective.
Edward Norton is fantatsic in this movie. It is very controversial but worth watching. It is the kind of movie that really makes you feel.
I was shocked and appalled at this movie at first as well. But, I hung in there and watched the rest. It is a very vivid reminder of how hate can run our lives. It reminded me of "A Time to Kill" with Matthew McConahey. These movies serve to stir us into not just sitting back and taking it. I think they move us to act and speak and be heard. Two thumbs up!
A very powerful performance from Edward Norton....a truly emotional movie on so many levels...there were so many scenes that shocked me...but incredible movie that I would highly recommend!
