"Like many people, I thought, "Damn, a hyperconservative, fuckable, Type A, antiabortion, Christian Stepford wife in a 'sexy librarian' costume -- as a vice president? That's a brilliant stroke of horrifyingly cynical pandering to the Christian right."

Yes she was an easy target. Anyone who is politically INcorrect is always an easy target in today's society. Frankly I wasn't bothered as much with HER inexperience as VICE PRESIDENT as I was and still am of Obama's INEXPERIENCE as PRESIDENT according to even the people in his own party (who work directly with him unlike any of us commenting on this article) who could not get the nomination and did a backflip in that regard putting party before country. Thank you for caring about our country's politics.

This is a very well written article, with a lot of turn-of-phrases well done to scorch an unfortunate candidate. Yes, Sarah Palin was a very easy target. She was definitely not ready for the position that she was thrust into, and from Canada I am bewildered as to why she was chosen. I am very left-wing and, would I have a say in an American election, I would never vote Republican. I think that Obama is a remarkable candidate and well-worth his win. However, McCain did earn my respect and, had he chosen someone more seasoned and ready for the role he put Sarah in, he would have made a decent candidate for office (assuming he was running on his own agenda and not overly controlled). Sarah Palin was an easy target; she was a pretty average woman with an average intelligence, average looks and an average amount of experience. I certainly do not think she is stupid; in fact, she is probably well suited to her current position. But, I would hope that the position of VP would command something more than average; and the process of running for office only highlighted how under-equipped this poor girl was. I think the article is overly demeaning of Sarah - she is an intelligent woman who just was not ready for what she was given. I consider myself to be a very intelligent, ambitious woman, and I can't imagine doing much better. It would take another 20 years of ambition and focus for me to be able to be properly informed for the situations that Sarah was placed into. I don't agree with her ideals, but I just don't see how she could have done better without comprimising everything she stood for. The fault of how things went lies with McCain - he took a gamble, and it failed. Let's move on, enjoy the excitement of what Obama has to offer and see how things go over the next four years. I would have voted Obama, because he unified so many people; however, I would not rule out Sarah 8 or 12 years down the road. She now knows she has her work cut out for her, and she has a little bit of studying to do. I agree that women should be angry that she was put forward as good enough for the position (there were several other, excellent candidates), but you don't get anywhere great without taking risks, and Sarah Palin was McCain's great risk. It just didn't pan out this time.

I haven't read ur article as yet but the topic of Sarah Palin intrigues and interests me to a great deal. I feel that the entire nation is wasting its time and energy behind a woman who is definitely attractive and interesting and always seems to have a great deal to say about inconsequential issues while she seems to be completely clueless about the actual problems that many of us face today. One should watch her answers to the issues of bailout backout and the proposal to bailout the auto industry and you will be bound to draw a conclusion that this lady is definitely a beauty with no brains. Unfortunately just because she is a woman doesn't mean that the female population has to support her - we must make sure that the woman should have some substance and understanding of the economics of the country before she can have such high expectations and dreams. It seems so funny that people are comparing her to someone of the stature of Hilary Clinton!!!!!

Wow, what an angry, depressed and paranoid individual you are. Your classless article just goes futher to prove how morally bankrupt our country is becoming. Sarah Palin, whether you agree with her politics or not, is a human being. She is deserving of a little dignity, and not a filthy description by an obviously uneducated young woman. You should be ashamed of yourself. And I'll bet you consider yourself "diverse and liberal"; the new definition for pirating decency that used to be second nature to most American people.

I am a liberal Democrat and I couldn't even finish the article because it was so disgusting. I think the general election was fair but voters were so uniformed. My Party is responsible for so much hypocrisy, lies, disenfranchisement, caucus fraud, arrogance, elistism, and a pre-selected nominiee. Obama went straight to #2 in campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie in less than 4 years. It took Kerry 19 years to come in third. Of course Dodd came in 1st. How disgusting that my Democrats would not pass the bill McCain cosponsered in 2005 to regulate Frannie and Freddie. The Democrats chose their pockets and self interest over helping the American people who were too stupid to figure out that the Democrats were a main reason for us needing a bailout. I respect Bill Clinton for owning up the part he felt his adminstration played. He is truly concerned about Americas problems unlike the new breed we now have.

As far a Gov. Sarah Palin if Democrats still want to believe that she was picked to get Hillary voters then they haven't paid attention. She was there to solidify the Republican base and bring her reform experience to the ticket. I thought that was a perfect match to McCain. I didn't agree with her on many things but unlike Obama she trufully told you where she stood on issues and she has tremendous more experience than our President Elect.

Sarah Palin deserved the same respect any other woman or man gets. Some of my most liberal, so called feminists friends brought themselves down to the lower degrading level there was. If you can't demand respect for all women whether you agree with them or not then not only do you not represent feminism you represent hypocrisy. No matter what anyone labels themselves I would hope that people try standing by the label "being human" and "someone with dignity and respect" and then google what that means. It used to mean something maybe it can again.

While she's probably right on a lot of that ... that was a viscious article. Wow! Frankly, if even half of that is true, I'm glad I backed out of the whole political thing early (decision already made) and avoided the political mudslinging and anger that was likely to go along with it. I sure am glad tho that Obama made it! Now, let's wait and see what he does with the presidency and democractic majority in congress!

This country has already been almost destroyed by 2 terms of the Right Wingers who have been anything but real conservatives. They have worked to undermine our freedoms, destroy our natural resources, and on and on...Thank God we are going to have some intelligent leadership now.

Do we feel stupid? Wow, what a question. I guess this type of question must be your idea of what change is huh? Ok, I'll bite even though it doesn't deserve a response. First, NO I do not feel stupid. I didn't compromise my better judgment to follow the crowd, instead opting to vote my conscience which makes my decision a lot better than anyone who would vote abandoning what they might believe to be right. Your post was absolutely offensive. It defies the tone being set here on WomenCo since the election. And I maintain that I accept President-Elect Obama and stand by him as our new President, which is certainly not the tone taken on the other side even BEFORE GWB took office. (And for those who want to continue passing off the lie that he did not win, grow up. He won. The votes were counted. Including all those military votes that the dem. party tried to suppress through litigation.)

Frankly, my opinion of your post is that you have no idea what the core principles of conservatism is AT ALL and probably no doubt ever voted for a conservative, Including in the year 2000 for McCain in the primaries. Conservatives are not pandered to. They stand for certain principles. (For instance, any conservative that hears pro-choice or pro-life have a built-in radar that kicks in. We pay attention to those types of words.) They cannot be fooled in the way that Howard Stern made idiots out of some Harlem voters. Palin was not brought in to pander to Hillary voters. How unbelievably ridiculous. We know our candidates before we vote for them. And if you knew a thing about being conservative you would also know that MORE conservatives were (excuse my language) PISSED OFF when McCain announced Palin as his running mate. We knew nothing about her. But when the attacks started on her from the left side of the aisle IMMEDIATELY after the announcement, it gave us the reason to start researching this woman. And she was definitely of the conservative values that are cherished within our party. Her view of the issues does not even register on the scale with Hillary voters. That goes to show how ignorant you are about conservatives to think she was brought in to pander to Hillary voters. Are you saying the Hillary voters were too dumb to see past her completely different very conservative ideology and vote for McCain because they were pissed off that Hillary didn't get the nomination? They would fall for a candidate who goes against every issue that Hillary supports? Wow. Unbelievable.

You claim we voted for a hypocrite because we talked about Obama having no experience. You justified "our hypocrisy" by overlooking Sarah Palin's inexperience. You have a very skewed way of looking at it and I'm going to put it straight here and then I have nothing more to say about it.

First, here is the definition of hypocrite/hypocrisy:

    Found here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocrite

    1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

    2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

John McCain is not a hypocrite. But let's talk about who actually DOES practice hypocrisy shall we?

Obama supporters claimed we never listened to anything from the other side of the aisle. We only believed our sources. They were wrong. We did listen. We did read and research. Besides the fact that Obama and I did not agree on hardly ANY issues, I took your party's leaders seriously. They work with the man. You and I don't. And what did they say? They said Obama was not ready/qualified to be president. There were several of them, but two of the best known ones can be viewed here:

    Hillary Clinton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMVOT-IH8sg
    Joe Biden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpjAs4vtc1w

After watching those videos, and then seeing them completely flip and say the opposite after they could not get the nomination, it is clear where they hypocrisy lies. In the democratic party. And absolutely nothing in the way of experience needed to run this country had changed from the time they made those statements up through the election. This was CLEARLY putting party before country.

And comparing Obama and Palin, are you serious? Do you have any idea how unbelievably crazy that sounds? It's apples and oranges. The main vote here was for president. And although the VP is important, if I'm voting for the main seat, then I'm going to vote for the one that has SOME kind of executive experience. I'm going to vote for someone who knows how to protect our country. So what's my choice? Vote for McCain who YOUR OWN PARTY LEADERS proclaimed would bring a wealth of experience to the White House or Obama who your leaders proclaimed was not ready, wasn't qualified, and the one which I did not agree with hardly any issue? Wow, what a no-brainer.

Do I feel stupid? No. But in my honest opinion after reading your comment, you should.

I apologize to the women of this virtual community for bringing anything this negative back onto the site after the election. But I considered this comment an attack on me and anyone who voted differently than most of you. I have not seen any other Obama supporter come on here since the election instigating something this negative, and I thank you for not doing so, opting to be ok with the fact that I and others were dignified and proud Americans still to accept the outcome of the election as a good American should. And once again, I accept President-Elect Obama and will support him as my leader. But I also intend to hold him accountable the way I have any other president (INCLUDING BUSH.)

And to the author of that comment: Judging from your attitude and words, if this is the type of change you were seeking to employ in this country, for your words alone, I am even prouder that I voted the way I did. SHAME ON YOU!

You know ToniN the ones who support Obama may feel as they have won. But will they in a few months when America is destroyed ? No matter what color your skin is , Or what party you are on Election day , Dem or Rep. None of that will matter because everyone will suffer the same ! And if he really recieved all those votes enstead of through ACORN voter FRAUD , Then I guess there is alot of people that OWE America an appology for calling us all Racist and screaming Discrimination for the last year through all this everytime someone stated something they didnt like ! One last thing , you cant argue with people who have their minds made up and dont want to listen to reason and face FACTS , so this has taught me that if nothing else . This will be my last post on this website , I wont waiste one more ounce of energy here. But so you all know its not DEFEAT , ITS DISCUST ! and Mr Obama just showed america , With enough money you can buy anything EVEN THE WHITE HOUSE ! Now that its over maybe someone will make him accountable for all the Fradulant donations and foriegn money he recieved ! I can see why you all are so PROUD of him and all of his HIGH MORALS he has showed through this election. And if it wasn't for the innocent ones that will suffer also it would almost be funny . To watch you get what you deserve ! Anyone who doesnt even know how many states there are in america, he said and i qoute ! " I have been to 57 states and I have 2 to go Alaska and Hawaii ! " If that had been McCain or god forbid Palin they would have burned them at the stakes ! As for McCain looking confused about the Bail Out , Wouldn't you , when everyone knew Obama had caused the problems on wall street with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to start with. So how would you like to stand and be the one to tell America they have to pay 700 billion to bail out Obama and pay for his campaign donations ! If Obama was this super hero you all have him made out to be , He would have used the money he rasied from donations to bail out wall street enstead of waiste it on TV ads . Then he might have even got my approval ! But oh well you all have fun with your short time to praise him and act rightious ! Because it will be short lived ! Also thanks for setting here on a website made for Women empowerment , making our gender look dumb again .... Maybe we should all go back to cave man days again . Have a nice life .....

Guess some of you guys feel pretty stupid now that Obama is the president-elect. How anyone could still vote for a hypocrite who says he's running for change, but openly admits to the same doctrines of Bush, who says Obama is unqualified but then chooses a blatantly unqualified woman as a gimmick, pandering to disgruntled Hillary supporters (which by the way is an insult to any intelligent feminists intelligence), who so dramatically suspended his campaign to do nothing but look confused at the bailout negotiations (as told by members of his own party)- its beyond me how anyone can choose that. At his final speech McCain reminded me of the man who had my vote in 2000, whom I respected and praised for his heroism. If he had remained the staple of integrity within the republican party, and chosen a competent running mate (his first presidential decision which showed him to be irresponsible) I would have had a harder time pulling the lever for Obama. As evidenced by the crowd in Chicago, most of us Obama supporters acknowledge the greatness that was McCain although the same respect for our candidate was nonexistent in Arizona. I could never bring myself to vote to keep the republicans in power when they have basically destroyed our country over the last 8 years and gone against the very core principle of the republican party which has garnered my support before "little government involvement", now the government can do anything thanks to Bush. Maybe its just me, but when I touch something and I get burned I DON'T KEEP TOUCHING IT!

WOW my thoughts exactly Mom2my2kids ! See the ones who dont even respect the ones who have fought and sacraficed for their freedom, Are the ones demanding more rights and freedom , But dont want to have to give anything in return even respect for the brave ones fighting the battles for them ! They just keep acting like the world owes them ! But the best part is when its all said and done , I have faith that there is still way more people with views and RESPECT for america ! And how it has and always will be ! And we will survive this insane election ! 8-)

Regarding the comment about McCain not following orders and that's how he became a POW? In this race if there was anyone to blame for racism, it is your precious Obamessiah and all of his many mouthpieces that spew nothing but the same BS that he has indoctrinated his supporters with. Every single time any of us lay out in bold terms what our position is as to why we are not voting for him, the only retort any of the Obama supporters have is the word racism, because they know our points are valid. Your comment is probably one of the most racial ones I've read on this site, and I've read quite a few on here. It is clear to me that you are only voting for him so that the pure African/European blood, which is the only credential you seem to care about has a chance to win the White House. No, it is you, your candidate and the many mouthpieces that are racist. And I can deal with that part of your character. I do not care who gets mad. I'm not going to tolerate your utter disrespect of a man who was tortured for 5+ years unmercilessly, refusing to go home when he was given the opportunity, opting instead to stay with his fellow POWs until the end when they were released. How dare you come on here and say something like that. If anything, you should be kissing his boots and thanking him for serving this country valiantly, and continued to serve even after he was released working in public service. You want to know why Obama has not run with this idiocy? Because he knows if he said the same thing you did he could kiss his presidential opportunity goodbye because no true patriot who is grateful to the men and women who serve this country in harm's way, let alone was tortured the way this man was while serving this country, would ever speak of such a man who sacrificed so much, in such a distasteful manner. You should be ashamed of yourself. I better stop before I say something I'll regret....
