Can't tell you how many professors send students to "interview" me for a writing assignment, only to find out half way through the interview that the student may be in an abusive relationship.
I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with Ann Burke of the Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund/Foundation. Ann is the mother of Lindsay who was murdered by her boyfriend when she was 23. LABMF has passed and advices states on creating legislation to mandate dating violence education in middle and high schools- hopefully before students are in that relationship. Also, they provide the education materials and raise funds so that schools do not have to find the money in their own budgets to pay for the curriculum or supporting materials. More info at labmf.org.
