Does minimum wage increase matter?

The increase, from $5.85 to $6.55 per hour, is the second of three annual increases required by a 2007 law. Next year's boost will bring the federal minimum to $7.25 an hour. However, do these increases really make a difference?

JDD I agree that it will cause some compainies to lay off some people. I have to say that minium wage is too low at the current time. You cannot support your self on most states' minium wage. I live in a state where the minium wage before the fed.increase was $5.15. And I think that the need based demand will keep people working. Cause most places don't have a whole lot of extra unskilled labor. (as far as I've seen)

Sure it makes a difference. It puts more people out of work!! Raising the minimum wage will force companies to let people go. Some companies only have a set amount they have available for wages, raising the price floor will put the most unskilled workers out of jobs.
