I lived in D.C. for two years and it is an AWFUL place for women. Even in the good part of town, crime was rampant and people would just disappear from time to time. I know they've been cracking down on crime, but with no private job sector, one of the poorest native populations in the country and no local government, things can' t possibly have gone from buddy-system-to-the-grocery-store to "c'mon down! bring the kids!" Any woman considering a move to D.C. would be well advised to think twice about it.

I agree with Journalismrefugee! NYC? I live in Queens and its rough. The apartments are totally over priced, electric is unbelievable high. The electric co. is already trying to raise its prices for next summer! And the supermarkets: milk is almost 5.00 a gallon! The salaries are no where near what you need to live comfortable.

My question is why Columbus, Ohio is never mentioned in any of these polls? The cost of living is comfortable to most cities, and if you are looking for a smaller company to work in, for example in marketing, you have no problems fitting in.

How can NYC and San Francisco be in the top 5, they are both oppressively expensive. I mean they are great cities but women are, by and large, working fields that are underpaid in those cities. Health care education, publishing, etc.
